Wow... JSU the #4 seed. That's shocking to me... they must've given them a lot of credit for wins in the fall.

What does that mean for Missouri St who is hoping the committee doesn't take fall games much into account??? Of course their AD is the committee chair...

The PL had nothing to do with it outside of the league generally being terrible. HC, Monmouth, SHU and Davidson are nothing more than place holders/bracket fillers.

The Crusaders have a chance to make a statement heading into the fall. Even a moral victory will go a long way to national legitimacy. With that said I think SDSU will win by 20-24 points....

Still a lot can off the field happen also to completely shake up the bracket... I'd say the chances we can get 15 games in over the next 4 weeks without any COVID related forfeits is slim.

I hope they ask the committee chair what happens if both teams in a particular matchup have COVID issues... it's certainly possible.

I've been enjoying watching some FCS this spring. I'm shocked to see Holy Cross, Davidson, Monmouth, Sacred Heart being 25% of the field. Looks like we all might be getting closer to 1978 again when D1 football divided financially. I think new rules and playoff format are going to lead to G5 being a separate division in which case many bigger FCS schools will join G5. Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching playoffs and seeing what transfer portal looks like.

Coaches love to play the disrespect card. The funny thing is he mentioned how he already played the disrespect card last night when the CAA ADs voted to give Delaware the AQ. Now that the committee vindicated that "snub" by seeding them instead of Delaware he's gotta find a new disrespect card to play.

I'd be more pissed if I was Danny Rocco. But, like I said earlier, I think the committee knocked those leagues who didn't even attempt to play a round robin schedule. JMU and Delaware missed each other. Weber St and EWU missed each other. I think had those games happened the winner of those matchups would've found themselves treated with the same respect that SDSU and JSU were.

And while nobody involved with the team was around in 2014, he can try to use the fact that Sacred Heart has won in Newark as added motivation (granted coming off the first undefeated regular season since 1972 in school history and having a reasonable shot to the semis should be motivation enough).

Don't worry. If Grass has proven anything it's that his teams can lose to anyone.

I said after the Austin Peay game that if this team put it's mind to it that we could lose to 11 folding chairs. Davidson may be non-scholly, but they are considerably better than folding chairs.

I think there are a number of teams looking at what SIU/SE L did and thinking they should have done the same thing instead of resting on their laurels. Both those teams proved they wanted to be there and it’s good to see that the winner was rewarded.

I was happy to see it. Hopefully we can avoid Covid knocking teams out of the playoffs but I am not holding my breath.

JMU fans are comedy. Angry about not being higher than SDSU or Sam? Shouldn't have ducked SIU.

Dukes had the 74th toughest schedule in the nation, their best win is over Richmond and they needed a late comeback to beat Elon by 3. Delaware has a better resume, yet they're nowhere to be found on the seeding line.

There was zero reason NDSU shouldn't have gone on the road as the third place MVFC team. At EWU comes to mind.

I am pretty sure EWU would not have even put a competitive bid in this time as they are in some trouble right now as documented around here.

I think they should blame their conference office for not trying to put together more of a round robin schedule instead of sticking them in 4 team division. They took an already bad situation with super insulated schedules and made it even worse. Another win for JMU against a team like Rhode Island, Maine, Villanova, or Delaware could've been a big boost I think.

They were bent out of shape after Delaware got voted the AQ even though the Hens played a tougher CAA schedule than the Dukies and played better against that schedule. xsmhx "BuT wE'rE rAnKeD #1!"

Finishing 4th in the conference is why NDSU has a tough draw. This, we stink, we deserve a tough draw and an early exit. **** season all around and the stupid win over UND is meaningless, lost the winning streak, lost the home winning streak and lost the Dakota Marker, complete failure of a season. Not kidding, great expectations for this last fall, greatest team in Bison history, WTF happened, and don't blame it on Covid, transfer portal and losing a couple guys to the NFL, this team is not deep, apparently had two really ****ty recruiting classes and now we are a young team looking up at everybody else.

SDSU vs NDSU on Saturday looked like Alabama vs. Mizzou.

Once upon a time, there was a Redbirds team that had lost to a Bison team in the championship the previous year. Then the next year, they did not play in the regular season, finished with the same record, were basically split between common opponents (ISUr over USD, but lost to SDSU; NDSU vice versa), and were MVFC co-champs. The Redbirds got the #2 seed, NDSU #3 (possibly because it was unclear if Carson Wentz would play in the postseason). Interestingly, NDSU ended up playing all home playoff games that year. JMU fans that are hung up on this need to get over it, because who knows how it will work out. Control what you can control.

Actually, they have laid out a new roadmap for getting into the postseason, so congratulations to them! Fortunately, the coach and AD whining about lost games due to midseason opt-outs to cover up not taking care of business when they needed to will probably not fly in the future (hopefully).

That said, I don't think they were as undeserving as some of those "Marty" teams selected in the past.

If UNI had won by 1 pt instead of lost by 1 pt to SIU, then they would be a playoff team. “Ifs and buts”, I know, but that is the line we are talking about with SIU. I am MVFC-biased, and I am actually glad SIU was the 5th MVFC team selected to be in the playoffs (and believe the committee got it right on this one account), but let’s not pretend they weren’t the fifth best MVFC team.

It was particularly interesting watching them slam SDSU then back off and say they earned it then double down on questioning them getting the #1 seed.

It is good to see the selection show on TV but when it is led by people so clueless to the FCS it just looks bad. I turned it off after the field/games were announced was it better when they talked to people more familiar with the FCS.

That is what I was thinking too. When we have had them lower and they were ranked quite a bit higher that was the only times when I would see people around here make statements like that. If we are the ones saying they seem to be our legit #1 then I think it is hard not to see that as AGS boters believing they are odds on tough enough to carry the flag for FCS.

If some SHSU fans believed in something we did not and they dislike what we have promoted as our theory in the past they would need to show us where we were wrong on that one but I think we've done fairly well calling our shots. I think that bodes well for SHSU going far and not getting blown out etc. and making this playoff a memorable one for their fans.

I know Walker gets scheduled for HBCU games a lot, but out of curiosity do you know if they partner him with other HBCU experts or does he get paired with individuals who look as clueless about HBCUs as he does on the broader FCS. Hopefully his partners are up to speed on those games and we can move that way on these games.

Even if we have individuals who do not follow or care about the FCS I would like to see individuals who do their research out of sheer professionalism. The main selection component of the show was just embarrassing, and regardless of how good those individuals are for other roles within ESPN they should be ashamed of the job they did.

Kinda looks like the committee gave a bit of a knock to conferences that didn't attempt to play a round robin schedule so the top teams missed each other. No seeds for Delaware or Weber St.

Professor, I don't understand why that would be a beef. CAA is a 12-team League. We don't play a full round-robin schedule even in a normal 11 or 12 game season.
The MVFC now has 11 teams, surely they don't either.

As a Delaware fan, I was not expecting a seed. Of course what Coach Rocco and the team thinks might be a totally different story. But I'm pretty happy with our draw in what would otherwise be the "#5" slot. REALLY happy to not be in that lower half of the bracket. SHeeesh!

I though Weber deserved a seed though.
Was expecting to see JMU at #1
I do feel that UD deserved the AQ over JMU, but Conference rankings and National rankings are two completely independent things.

Delaware has done exactly squat in the playoffs in recent memory, so I don't think we've earned a seed. Like I said, I'm happy with our position.

I just think it might've been more than a coincidence that SDSU, SHSU, and JSU played all the other top teams from their conference (except for SDSU missing Missouri St) and they got the benefit of the doubt in seeding whereas JMU, Delaware, and Weber St (and EWU for that matter) missed the other top team in their conference and that might've gotten them over the hump to get seeded or get a better seed.

And it doesn't have to be a full round robin... just some intersectionality in general. JMU's signature win was Richmond... how good was Richmond? They only beat Elon and W&M (as did JMU). How good were Elon and W&M? Well Elon nearly lost to Davidson and got crushed by Gardner-Webb and W&M's only win was over Elon. If any of those CAA South teams had crossed over and played Maine or Rhode Island or Villanova or Delaware we could've had a lot better gauge on how good they were and given us a better idea of how impressed we should or shouldn't be with JMU's win over Richmond or Richmond's wins over Elon and W&M. I just think it was a mistake by the CAA to further insulate the already super-insular schedules this spring.

I think you maybe missed the "4-4" reference...or you did not, and I am just confused now.

Someone posted SIU was 4-3 vs. AGS Top 25. The comment about not going 4-4 was referring to SIU making sure not to lose in the 1st round of the playoffs. I am hopeful they do hit 5-3 vs. AGS Top 25 instead of 4-4, otherwise they are done. It would also lend some credence to 5 MVFC teams in the playoffs, if the fifth best MVFC team beat the best(?) Big Sky team (I know, unclear about EWU, and missing Montanas). I am aware of the record against AGS Top 25 (including the fall)...it has been in the "How They Fared" spreadsheets all season.

Holy Cross v. Southern Illinois and/or Sacred Heart v. Davidson as the candidate quarterfinal games, then winner of each v. other in semifinal...very, very doubtful.

Also, this is my last bit of ribbing SIU, as they were so geeked up about lobbying to be a playoff team that they did not even put in to host a game. Or perhaps they did and were not awarded the possibility? - seems unlikely. They probably wouldn't have had a home game (based on the bracket), but just a bit surprised they were not on the list as a potential host.

I think that has less to do with SIU and more to do with the logistical ability of Carbondale, IL to adequately host a college football team. There aren't a lot of hotels in town and those that are there are travel lodge types that can't offer the necessary meeting space or catering capacity that a team and its travelling party requires.

It makes sense since on the selection show Davis wasn't even listed amongst the first four out. Would've been interesting to see if SIU gets that last at-large had UCD been available??? I guess this means that the STATS poll also projected all 6 at-larges correctly since they had UC Davis one spot ahead of SIU but the committee had crossed the Aggies off the list.
