I guess I am still higher on APSU than the rest as well as Mercer and ETSU. I guess I am lower on Monmouth and Kennesaw than the rest, but I am not sure if either of those teams are that good or if Kennesaw was that over-hyped and Monmouth had its' way with them.

I'm perplexed by some of the CAA teams climbing the rankings. Villanova seems overrated to me based on their relative placement to Rhode Island (both are 2-1 and URI beat Nova) and Richmond is above a lot of teams I feel have proven more than them. I guess they both get a chance to prove the consensus right this week with their big matchups with Delaware and JMU respectively.

Professor Chaos: I agree I am perplexed with CAA team rankings, let alone their moving up the poll sans playing games. Well, at least this weekend is put up or shut up for them.

Kingpin: The SoCon has been immensely entertaining this year, I just am not as high on the quality of football played in that conference as a whole this year. I am sure there is some personal bias in play here, but I readily admit that I am one who thinks Northern Iowa would beat any team from the SoCon this year, hence my rankings. UNI will not get that chance, and VMI (or Mercer) will get the chance to prove many wrong. We have some agreement in Kennesaw though (as many probably do); I wanted to drop them out of the poll, but I think Monmouth is actually a decent looking team, hence Kennesaw still in my rankings.

Like others have said I'm confused by the CAA rankings. I don't see how Richmond is that high. I also can't understand the big gap between Rhode Island and Villanova (same record and Rhode Island has the head to head win). I'm also surprised Nicholls is still ranked even though it seems almost impossible to pick the last 5 or so teams.

UNI jumped back into my poll. and I had to raise my eye to it. At this point, you could take the top 8/10 teams and no one could realistically complain about a tournament that was this:

3 vs 10
4 vs 9
5 vs 8
6 vs 7

1 and 2 get byes with them playing the remaining lowest teams.

I guess when I looked more at the point totals it makes a bit more sense. There's a big gap between JSU at #9 and Villanova at #10. That gap is actually bigger than the gap between Nova and SLU at #16. In other words, despite being ranked 10th, Nova is closer to 16th than they are to 9th.

I don’t blame anyone for being a little skeptical of the CAA right now, a lot of bad teams in that conference

But on the flipside there’s a lot of bad teams in FCS right now to

Until proven otherwise, The power conferences still get the benefit of the doubt

Couple notes from this week's poll:

Mercer made their first ever appearance in the AGS Top 25 at #20.
Missouri St (for the 3rd straight week) achieved their highest ever ranking in the AGS Poll now up to #11.

That is a great observation Professor:

Difference between 9 and 10 = 137 pt
Difference between 10 and 16 (7 teams) = 123 pt
Difference between 16 and 17 = 124 pt

Clearly, this cluster of teams is a bit of a challenge for voters. I suspect that a significant portion of this is due to missed games/opponents (Richmond, Villanova, UC Davis, Missouri State) and perceived strength of opponents (Monmouth, VMI). In the case of Southeastern Louisiana, I am torn, because their only losses have been to top 25 teams, yet their wins have not been outstandingly impressive either.

I wonder how often there is a cluster of 6-7 teams that are separated on either side by the same amount of points as all 6-7 teams are combined. I suspect it probably happens more often than one would think in this area of the rankings, but it is an interesting observation.

I hadn’t realized that. It seems like the top 9 are pretty universally agreed upon (not the order but who the top 9 teams are). After that it’s a crapshoot.

Yeah, I wish you could have gotten back to me. I hate not getting a voter's effort in like that. Anyway it is a note to everyone voting that you really need to make sure the email you are using is one you see or get notifications on frequently...or at the very least check your emails between the hour of 11a and noon ET before the poll closes.

It does not count as a miss PT, at least that is a bit of silver lining. I appreciate the effort to cast one in.xthumbsupx

not hating on the qb, cuz he is very good, but I think you could plug in a different qb, with a good arm and get pretty good results. Their offensive scheme is dang good.

Unfortunately, they have zip, nil, nada for defense.

They are just like Texas tech ( where the coach came from).

I wouldn't #bookit if I were you. I have little doubt that Sammy will likely drop 50+ on UIW, but our defense has been shaky recently. I will call it 68-54 with the Bearkats getting the win.

Could be but Sam Houston is very good on defense, especially up front. UIW can score on them — they can score on anybody — but can they score enough? I think Sam will take the UIW running game away, make them one dimensional, get the QB (Cameron Ward) on the run and pull away. That said, while I agree UIW isn't very good on defense, they do have some talent and are opportunistic. They have a knack of forcing turnovers, and if they get a couple TOs early, and Ward is hot, it'll be competitive all the way through. Ward is a rare talent and the RB (Kevin Brown) is an NFL prospect IMO.

Ward is a rare talent and the RB (Kevin Brown) is an NFL prospect IMO.I saw IW play twice, McNeese game and Nicholls, they looked like two different teams. I can't figure anybody out this spring, you don't know what is going to show up on any given day. I just don't think this game is going to be close but we will see, but that D performance by IW against Nicholls might have been one of the worst D performances I have seen in a long time and then they gave up 49 to NW ST, almost looks like they have quit to me.
