Very unfortunate. Makes one wonder if helmets should be made mandatory for all coaches.:(

I'd agree with that.

Very sad indeed. We had a 17 or 18 year old pitcher killed here in Helena a few years ago after being hit by a line drive. There was a pretty big movement after that to get aluminum bats banned at the high school level.

Yeah, that kid was from Miles City, I think?
I'd agree with getting rid of aluminum bats, too. If God had intended bats to be made of metal, He wouldn't have made so many tall, thin trees. xmadx

Yes, he was from Miles City. My sister knew the kid who hit him (on accident, of course) pretty well. One of those things he'll probably just never forgive himself for. :(

He had nothing to do with it! A good counselor or man/woman of the cloth can get him past this. Hopefully, that is taking place.

I agree with the aluminum bat thing in any league above Little League. I also agree with anyone on the field wearing a helmet. Hockey refs wear helmets, baseball umpires and coaches should too. Unfortunately, none of that brings this man back to his family but mayeb this terrible tragedy can produce some good along the safety front in sports.

I remember him from his days with the Brewers and the Cardinals.
Even worse is that his wife is pregnant right now. :(
