For the second straight week there was a game that went down to the wire. Idaho State kicked in a 30-yard field goal with five seconds left in the game to defeat Southern Utah. Gardner-Webb RB Narii Gaither’s 96-yard touchdown run last week against Presbyterian marked the longest rush from scrimmage in Big South history. He broke the previous long of 93 set by Monmouth’s Pete Guerriero against James Madison in the 2019 FCS Second Round.
The first conference game of the spring season is Saturday, as #9 Kennesaw State hosts Charleston Southern. The Owls have won the last three meetings by a combined margin of 121-33 – having scored at least 38 points each time.

CAA Football announced earlier this week that this Saturday’s football game between William & Mary and James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. has been postponed due to CoVID-19 related protocols within the JMU program. A decision on rescheduling the game will be made at a later date.
UAlbany's Levi Metheny earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors last week. Metheny recorded a team-high 10 tackles, including nine solo, in #13 UAlbany’s 24-20 victory at #14 New Hampshire on Friday night. The senior linebacker spearheaded a Great Danes’ defense that held the Wildcats to just 186 total yards and 11 first downs in the contest.
CAA Football, led by James Madison (3-0) at No. 1 has five ranked teams in the Stats Perform top-25 poll. Villanova (6th) joins the Dukes in the Top 10.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has revealed a revised television schedule, in partnership with ESPN, for the spring 2021 football season. The slate will see four games shown live on ESPN3 that will be carried on ESPNU at a later date. It includes Saturday, March 13 (Delaware State at South Carolina State); Saturday, March 27 (Delaware State at Howard); Saturday, April 10 (Delaware at Delaware State); and Saturday, April 17 (South Carolina State at Delaware State).
Last Week: South Carolina State redshirt junior defensive back Decobie Durant took charge of the Bulldogs defense leading the way with a game-high three (3) interceptions against Alabama A&M, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State suffered an 31-7 defeat. Redshirt freshman running back Kendrall Flowers finished with a team-high 13 carries for 115 yards, while Alex James gave the Bulldogs their only score of the day 23-yard run. Linebackers BJ Davis and Chad Gilchrist both finished with 10 tackles each in the loss
This Week: South Carolina State will host Delaware State on Saturday, March 13 at Oliver. C. Dawson Stadium. Kickoff is 2 p.m. and will be telecasted live on ESPN3 and re-aired on ESPNU on March 15 at 9 p.m.

North Dakota continues to keep it rolling against teams inside the top-25, notching its 14th win as a Division I program against a ranked foe and its sixth-straight victory at home. The Fighting Hawks have now started 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2008, but this marks the first time in program history that it has knocked off a trio of ranked opponents to start the season.
South Dakota hosts Missouri State Saturday in what will be the first game to take place in the DakotaDome following a $26 million renovation to the west side of the facility. The Coyotes had won 16 consecutive home openers before falling to Montana 31-17 at the start of last season.
Seven teams from the Missouri Valley Football Conference are ranked in this week’s Stats Perform Top 25 poll, with five teams appearing in the Top 10. Seven league teams have been ranked in the same week 18 times in our history, including twice this year, and the league record is eight (Sept. 29, 2014). The league matched a record with five top-10 teams, which had been achieved three times previously -- most recently on Oct. 2, 2017.

The Northeast Conference is sponsoring its first-ever spring football championship season and ESPN is set to carry three featured NEC matchups live. Two regular season contests and the conference’s first-ever spring championship game will be carried exclusively by ESPN3. The 2021 spring slate marks the eighth consecutive season the NEC will feature football games through ESPN streaming services on web and via the ESPN App across smartphones, tablets and connected devices. The games will be available to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider.
Julius Chestnut accounted for 209 scrimmage yards and all four of his team’s touchdowns during Sacred Heart’s season-opening trip to Duquesne. The 2019 FCS All-American kicked off the spring season by averaging 8.71 yards per touch. Chestnut carried the ball 22 times for 168 net yards and gained 41 yards on two pass receptions.

Last week, QB Zion Webb of Jacksonville State completed 21-of-33 passes for 280 yards and a career-high three touchdowns and rushed for 18 yards as Jacksonville State won its fifth-straight game, 38-16 at Tennessee Tech. He had a 29-yard touchdown pass right before halftime, added a 54-yard pass early in the fourth quarter and capped the game with a 19-yard score with 3:57 to play.
Austin Peay sophomore running back Brian Snead set the FCS record for rushing yards in a quarter when he had 204 yards on just six carries in the first quarter against Tennessee State on February 28. Snead had touchdown runs of 75, 67 and 44 yards in the quarter. The previous FCS record was 194 yards by Nevada's Otto Kelly on Nov. 12, 1983.

A season ago, the Holy Cross Crusaders -- this spring's favorite to repeat as Patriot League champs -- averaged a league-best 409 yards of total offense -- including 189 rushing yards -- in Patriot League contests, while also averaging a conference-leading 28.2 points per game. For the 10th consecutive year, the University of San Diego has been picked to win the Pioneer Football League regular-season race in a preseason vote of the league’s coaches. San Diego, which has won the regular-season title each of the past six seasons, again received the coaches’ nod to win the Spring 2021 PFL title with all six possible first-place votes and maximum 36 points. Behind the Toreros, Davidson was picked to finish second with 28 points. Drake was given a third-place nod with 25 points followed by Stetson in fourth with 22 points. Valparaiso (13), Butler (12) and Morehead State (11) round out the seven-team spring poll.
The Spring 2021 season marks the 28th year for the Pioneer Football League – the nation’s only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference. The league will feature 10 teams each playing an eight-game schedule to determine the league champion and recipient of the automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA FCS Championship.

Mercer, which has won four straight over VMI, was idle last weekend. The Bears are coming off a 42-28 win over The Citadel on Feb. 27 in which they carried a 28-0 lead into the half and saw freshman quarterback Carter Peevy go 10-for-17 for 208 yards and three TDs. After the Bulldogs made it a one-possession game with 2:11 left in the contest, Ethan Dirrim returned a kickoff for a touchdown just six seconds later to cement the win. The win was the first of the Drew Cronic era.
On Saturday, No. 15 Furman visits ETSU, a team it has beaten six times in the last seven meetings. The Paladins turned in the biggest rally in Paladin Stadium history last weekend, overcoming a 17-point second-quarter deficit to down Samford 44-37 on Saturday. QB Hamp Sisson threw two fourth-quarter TDs, including a 73-yard strike to Ryan Miller that tied it late, and Devin Wynn scored on a 9-yard run in OT as the Paladins rebounded from their first loss of the season.

UIW’s Kevin Brown and Southeastern Louisiana’s Ferlando Jordan and Mateo Rengifo are the Southland Football Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Weekly awards are presented by Hercules Tires.
Brown, a senior running back, is the Offensive Player of the Week after he rushed for a career-high 196 yards and a touchdown and hauled in four catches for 38 yards and another score in the Cardinals’ 42-20 win over Lamar on Saturday. UIW (2-0, 2-0 SLC) is off this Saturday before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on March 20.
Defensive Player of the Week honors go to Jordan after the junior corner was responsible for two turnovers inside their own 10-yard line to help the No. 24 Lions hold off the Cowboys for a 25-20 victory on Saturday. Rengifo, a junior kicker, converted all four of his field-goal attempts in SLU’s victory to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The Lions (1-1, 1-1 SLC) host Northwestern State at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be shown on ESPN+.

Arkansas Pine Bluff’s Skyler Perry, Jackson State’s Aubrey Miller Jr. and Alabama A&M’s Troy Lendvay were all named Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their outstanding play this past weekend the league has announced.
Offensive- Perry (New Orleans, La.) accounted for 281 yards and all four touchdowns in UAPB’s win at Southern. He completed 22-of-37 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed eight times for 58 yards and career-high two touchdowns in the Golden Lions' first-win over Southern since 2012.
Defensive/Newcomer- Miller (Memphis, Tenn.) registered 18 tackles (10 solo), a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble in the Tigers' 33-28 victory over Grambling State. He forced the fumble as GSU was driving and had the ball 2nd and goal from the JSU 1. The forced fumble and JSU recovery preserved the Tigers' victory.

Defensive Player of the Week honors go to Jordan after the junior corner was responsible for two turnovers inside their own 10-yard line to help the No. 24 Lions hold off the Cowboys for a 25-20 victory on Saturday. Rengifo, a junior kicker, converted all four of his field-goal attempts in SLU’s victory to earn Special Teams Player of the Week honors. The Lions (1-1, 1-1 SLC) host Northwestern State at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday. The game will be shown on ESPN+.

Arkansas Pine Bluff’s Skyler Perry, Jackson State’s Aubrey Miller Jr. and Alabama A&M’s Troy Lendvay were all named Southwestern Athletic Conference Football Players of the Week for their outstanding play this past weekend the league has announced.
Offensive- Perry (New Orleans, La.) accounted for 281 yards and all four touchdowns in UAPB’s win at Southern. He completed 22-of-37 passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed eight times for 58 yards and career-high two touchdowns in the Golden Lions' first-win over Southern since 2012.
Defensive/Newcomer- Miller (Memphis, Tenn.) registered 18 tackles (10 solo), a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble in the Tigers' 33-28 victory over Grambling State. He forced the fumble as GSU was driving and had the ball 2nd and goal from the JSU 1. The forced fumble and JSU recovery preserved the Tigers' victory.
