Excellent move by UNH. It has worked out very well at UMass, and it's certainly not going to hurt Santos & Co. Now, how about a new stadium up there?? ;)

That's fine.

Not going to fill in the blank. But somewhere in the next 5-10 years.

Have your players had any of the footing problems which used to plague wet or icy AstroTurf or SuperTurf?

When it snows they just use small tractors with these big brushes and it cleans the field pretty good. I haven't noticed slippery conditions at Wash/Griz. We had a game in 2006 where we walked into the stadium and there was 4 inches on the seats and the field was clean and green.

Doesn't have to be fake to do that...

We didn't have any wet weather last season, so I can't answer that. I'm told Field Turf is better in wet conditions, although you couldn't tell that from being at a Northeastern game in the rain.

Mpls what is this vendetta you have against grass? Do you just hate mowing your lawn or something? Or did you replace that with field turf? I'm sure your kids will be much safer playing on that. xnodx

MplsBison and friends as children. Apparently he was "roughed" up and subsequently traumatized. :( To fight against the evil powers of natural grass he has adopted the not-so-secret identity of Turf Man.

It's one thing if you have a dog pooping on it all the time.

But if you just want an area of your property to look green and well cut all the time with no work, it could be a very practical solution.

I can speak from experience of playing flag football in Kidd Brewer on FieldTurf in the rain.

It is better in wet conditions than grass. It soaks up all the water and if they do it right and build a slope into the field and have drains on the sideline, it'll be fine.

Of course, Furman fans would tell you it doesn't matter when there's patches of ice on the field. xthumbsupx

Also, FieldTurf is good for cold weather locationa ONLY. If it's 80-90 degrees a good portion on the year, no FieldTurf for you. It absorbs heat and can burn bare flesh if it gets too hot.

Only if it has the rubber infill.

I have watched 2 games after several days of rain at Joe Walton Stadium. One game was raining off and on throughout the game. I did not see any of the players have any problems with the wet turf. I talked to a couple of the players and their parents and asked them how the Field Turf was like and how they rated it. They liked it and the only comment was that the first year the surface was hard compared to the 2nd year because it took that amount of time to work in the rubber pellets. At RMU they play football and fiield hockey on it in the fall and Men and Women's Lacrosse in the spring.

:D That blocked punt is one of my favorite football photos of all time. It summed up that game in one shot.
