SIU has a very nice team. Not overpowering, but good. They win 30-22 as YSU makes big improvement, mainly from better use of personnel and some game experience for a young OL. Make no mistake, they don’t have decent QB as Waid is best they have, but the platoon trial is over. McLaughlin is their best RB and glad he is getting most reps, but he has to stay healthy as they have no one beyond him. The Guins will be forced to rely on the run game which will mean the box will get loaded as teams force them to win thru the air which will be futile. They need to throw some screens , play action passes and maybe add a Wildcat. They can’t run Waid and expect him to stay healthy and the Wildcat gives him some breaks.
The D continues to be a strong point and if YSU had an O, they would be in many games, winning a few.
Coaches also made better play selections and the kicking game improved. Looks to be a losing season as expected but experience gives them outlook for improved Fall.
