William & Mary sophomore Daniel Layton (Waynesburg, Pa.) completed the first half of the hepathlon on Saturday at the Mason Winter Track Fiesta on record-pace in Fairfax, Va. After four of the seven events, Layton is second overall with 2,451 points. That's 94 points ahead of his pace from the 2020 IC4A Championships, where he went on to finish fifth overall in a freshman-record 4,733 points. Using that advantage to project his second-day scores, Layton is on-pace to score a school-record 4,921 points.
