According to ESPN we are going into Week 3 for the Spring Season.

A game that I find to be most intriguing is Tarleton St. vs. NMSU. Is this still happening? And, are the Aggies signaling they are ready to do a drop-down like the Vandals?

The other game that will shake things up is SDSU vs. UNI. Both of these teams are Top 5 FCS. A great way to start the weekend with a premier game!

NMSU has stated that they aren't dropping down. They are wanting the WAC to go back to FBS.

That may be what they're saying publicly but seems to me this spring may be a trial run. Sometimes you need to deaden the nerve before you yank the tooth.

Why do you think ESPN considers this week as Week 3 already? xconfusedx

For me, it's just week 2 so far for spring. For STATS, it is now week 21 in their book. (Including the fall season)

What did they count to get to three? Did they skip week 2? Are they counting to throw the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch at the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog?

Anyway I wish I could have watched the McNeese-Tarleton game. Great way to start the spring season.

Week 1 - Tarleton State at McNeese on Saturday 2/13
Week 2 - South Dakota State at Northern Iowa and Lincoln (MO) at Nicholls on Friday 2/19
Week 3 - all of the Saturday and Sunday games of 2/20 and 2/21

More realistically, they knew the season started in February and arbitrarily assigned the first weekend in February as Week 1 (with no games).

With as many people that ESPN has fired, I thought they must be down to someone who can't count.

Newly onboarded intern was told to set up the schedule? In that case, you may not be far off as that intern would be of the generation with zero ability to make change without the register telling them exactly how much to return to the customer (even then, the count among the coins has about a 1 in 4 chance of being wrong).

I've had people try to give me change that either amounted to more than the bill that I gave them, or woefully short. It is the inability to think in their head that is more frustrating that the mistake. After I retired I subbed in town for the grade school. The "new math" didn't make any sense to me. Neither did the fact that they didn't go through multiplication tables. Even when I was teaching some of my students couldn't figure out if they had passed the test at 60%. It was a 50 point test and they couldn't figure out if they doubled their score that they would have the exact percentage.

Math was always my worst subject but even I can figure that stuff out.

ESPN is calling it WEEK 3 for some reason. I added the link so you all could see which games would be playing this "week."

Nope, they're not dropping. NMSU administration has been adamant that they need to remain in the FBS simply to compete with rivals UNM and UTEP for students.

That seems to be an odd argument.

Do prospective students really look at the whether a school is FBS as an important factor to determine they are going to attend or not? or would they rather look at the academics the school offers for study and the cost to attend?

The IVYs don't seem top have a problem being labeled FCS.

Being FBS may help then to attract student athletes, but that would be about it. Would a student athlete rather go to an FBS and get beat in most games or to a upper FCS team and be competitive in most games and may even beat NMSU?

It is an odd argument but I can see their point. The benefit of athletics to most schools, besides school spirit and encouraging alumni involvement, is name recognition. The Ivy's are pretty much an international brand unto themselves and they don't need athletics to promote their school but, for NMSU, getting the Aggie name out there as being equals with other regional schools and rivals is paramount. UTEP is an hour away and UNM, their rival in absolutely everything, is three hours north but the nearest FCS programs to Las Cruces are seven+ hours away in Flagstaff and/or Abilene. Given that there are multiple D2 and NAIA programs within the state of New Mexico, NMSU could face -- or could assume that they would face -- a perception problem of potential in-state students equating NMSU's not being FBS with their being second division at best. It certainly wouldn't be an accurate perception but it's a battle NMSU would constantly have to fight.

Final, 43-17 Tarleton. Good job, Texans. Oof, Aggies.

Completely aside, can somebody tell me how Tarleton is accurately pronounced? Is it TAR-luh-tun, TARL-tun or TA-ryl-tun?
