The White Sox ace agreed to a four-year, $56 million contract with Chicago on Sunday, taking the most attractive pitcher on the rumor mill off the market. The contract includes an escalator clause that could make the deal worth $75 million over five years if he is traded.

THANK YOU JESUS!!!

Is there a no-trade clause?

There is a partial no trade, he can create a list of teams to be traded to before his 10/5 tkes affect...If he gets traded in that window, the escalator clause kicks in

Nice deal for him, then. Gets to pick where he goes, AND gets a hefty raise IF he goes. xthumbsupx

No trade clause or not, a longer term deal makes him loads more attractive since he wouldn't be a "rent a player". I wouldn't be surprised if he still gets moved.

I wouldn't either....however, some of these teams LIKE the concept of a rental player....don't want to be tied down to a long term deal, but want to get some help for THIS season....

True, but if I were GM, I'd hate to giv eup prospects for a guy I couldn't resign. Plus, even with the escalator it'd only make him cost $15 million a season and when you consider some of the crummy pitchers that were getting $10-$12 last off-season, I'd think this makes him priced to move. Besides, I can't think of any teams that would love to pencil Mark Buerhle in as the #1 or #2 starter for the next 5 years.

The ONLY way MB gets moved is if he falls completely apart or the White Sox completely fall apart in the next 2 years...Mark wants to be here, KW and JR want him here, and they BOTH made concessions to keep him here!!! And the Crowd absolutely adores him...trading or not extending him would be felt at the Gate
