Scott Boras thinks so.

So is the goal to push the season a little longer into November?

If Detroit or Boston...either NY team...either Chicago team make the WS, and winter weather delays hit...what then...

Screw Borass.

Other than more money, there is no justification for extending the series. And if it's money that the league wants, why not just extend the series into December? Or maybe even into February, about a week before pitchers and catchers report to spring training?

Boras is a DB and an egomaniac to think that he's this influential in the sports world.

I could support a change to make the first game on a neutral site where they have a large awards show the nite before and then have a 2-2-1-1 format the rest of the way.

Or even more that each game is played in a different city say the top 7 sellouts each season or soemthing maybe that could help teams sell tickets.

In baseball neither team deserves an extra game in the world series.

I couldnt find a list of top sellouts for 2006 but total attendance percentage based on capacity and the top 7 were

1 Boston (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=bos) 81 2,930,768 36,182 100.0
2 Chicago Cubs (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=chc) 80 3,123,215 39,040 94.9
3 LA Angels (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=laa) 81 3,406,790 42,059 93.4
4 San Francisco (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=sfo) 81 3,130,304 38,645 93.0
5 Houston (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=hou) 81 3,022,763 37,318 91.1
6 St. Louis (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=stl) 80 3,407,104 42,588 90.9
7 NY Yankees (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nyy) 81 4,200,518 51,858 90.2

9 games is too long. What is wrong with a best of 7? What is the rationale to changing it?

heck no 7 is long enough.

hell no, the season is way too long anyway. It gets in the way of Sunday night football during the world series.(the one week where there is no sunday night game) This would probably make it 2 weeks with no sunday night game.

I'd be good with 5....9 is way way way too long. Networks have had a problem with ratings as it is-9 games would only make it worse.

It used to be 9, back around 1900. Then they shortened it to 7. Leave it alone!

Nice to have new ideas & I did like one of them, the Hall of Fame voting & the MVP, Cy Young etc. But 9 game is too long & playing at a neutral site just jabs at tradition too hard, won't happen.

No. If anything it should be shortened.

I actually like the CWS format and wonder how it would play out in MLB.

Absolutely not. And by the way, we should get rid of the DH and get back to baseball the way it's supposed to be played.

I used to be strongly opposed to the DH, but until the rest of baseball (collegiate levels, minor leagues, etc.) approach it differently, then I don't think we should change MLB's policy.

If I remember correctly, the famous "Black Sox" series in 1919 was 5 of 9.

You do remember correctly, Old Blue One! :p According to that unimpeachable (?)source, Wikipedia, the World Series has been in a best-of-7 format every year except 1903, 1919, 1920 and 1921, when it was best-of-9.xreadx

1903, 1919, and 1921 all went to 8 games, and 1920 went 7.

As much as I love baseball, 9 games is too many.

Besides, game 8 or game 9 jut doesn't sound right.xthumbsupx

Best of 7 is plenty for a good series, let alone a bad one. I do like his idea of playing some games at predetermined neutral sites, though.

I remember as a kid rushing home from school to try and catch at least the last few innings of the WS. And they weren't just day games, they were early day games starting about 12:30 if I remember correctly.

I vote NO! The season is already too long. The games take forever to play, and they don't start until 9-9:30 e.s.t. I know it won't happen, but I would like to see the MLB post-season run the way the do the CWS.
