I participate in calling prospective Yosef Members (ASU athletic scholarship fund) and the #1 question asked is when is ASU going 1-A (FBS). Many people say they won't give until then. Maybe it is an excuse or maybe there is some truth to it. Here is an interesting article on WKU's and Troy's transition to FBS:

"WKU is currently working its way through the progression but has been pleased with its decision to move up, Selig said. After the school publicized plans to jump but before it announced its 2006 schedule, 3,500 new season tickets were sold, and as of May three businesses had purchased 500 new season tickets each for the fall."

Some of that may be true, but I'd like to see if those people really follow through. My experience with fund raising is, people who do not want to donate fabricate an excuse to justify their decision and to lessen their embarassment, then if you defeat that excuse another one conveniently arises.
Our donations have risen a lot since going D-I and may get another jump should we decide to go FBS, but I'm guessing the increased donations came from and would come from a totally different group who says now "I won't donate until you do (fill in the blank)". They will always find an excuse. JMHO
