View Full Version : 2020 AGS FFA Poll - Week 2

OhioHen
September 13th, 2020, 08:28 AM
With 8 of the 15 teams having played at least once, time to start this up.

Please rank all 15 teams. This is open to EVERYONE, not just registered poll voters. Post your Top 15 and discuss the lists provided by each poster.

We would prefer that you post YOUR list before responding to the lists of others because that will add to the discussion, but doing so is not an absolute requirement. Let's have some fun with this since there are so few games to discuss.

Since there is no deadline to get a poll published, all rankings posted until noon on Thursday will be included in a tabulation for the week. Tabulation will be easier if you post the teams as listed below, but I'm okay with counting from a list that includes abbreviations - just be sure to not confuse ACU and UCA. :D

The teams to be included in each poll:

Abilene Christian

Austin Peay

Campbell

Central Arkansas

Chattanooga

Eastern Kentucky

Houston Baptist

Jacksonville State

Mercer

Missouri State

North Alabama

North Dakota State

Stephen F. Austin

The Citadel

Western Carolina

Giving JaxSt benefit of doubt for a rebound year
Was starting to become a bit of an APSU fan, but do not like them agreeing to shorten the game with Pitt

Certainly a reasonable approach. Just curious - do you do the same in the Week 1 poll during a "normal" season? If your preseason #1 has Week 1 off, are they removed from your poll until they play in Week 2?

OhioHen
September 14th, 2020, 09:45 AM
Combination of preseason expectations (my pre-Covid-season poll) and what has been seen so far. Some teams exceeded expectations (e.g. HBU vs. TTU), others got blown out just as would have been expected (e.g. MoState vs. Oklahoma) and others are somewhere in between.

No, I don't do that in a normal season. In a normal season the expectation is that all scheduled games will be played by all teams. We don't know if any of these teams that haven't played a game yet will play at all. They could have an outbreak any day.

You and me both. We did not look good at all. Can't make the mistakes we had and expect to beat an FBS team. I will blame it on the virus and weirdness. We were down a few players due to virus concerns, but just depth, apparently, not any key starters.

ACU 15th? A pox on you Ohio Hen. ACU lost to UCA by 1 last year, a better performance against them than your #3 team.
ACU also beat #14 Stephen F Austin and easily handled #8 Zappe and company (aka Houston Baptist) even after HBU pushed FBS UTEP to the limit like they did against Texas Tech this year. In fact, in the three years he’s started for HBU the Huskies are 0-3 vs Abilene.

Now that's the kind of discussion about posted polls we're used to seeing!

ACU gets their chance to prove my preseason expectations wrong and jump several teams this week.

I’m not quite as confident as my post sounded. Since last season our QB opted to grad transfer, at least three veteran starters are no longer with the team and Our starting rb isn't at full speed owing to an injury. We loaded up on transfers at positions we knew needed help (wr and db) but may have come up short in some areas we didn’t know needed shoring up until late in the day. The staff has kept fall camp under wraps so none of us really know what to expect.

UTEP has played two games and this is our first outing. I hope it doesn’t take us three quarters to shake off the rust. 5 Dimes has this as a 4 point game in UTEP’s favor and an O/U of 54 1/2. Sounds about right.

7. Abilene Christian - 101
8. Stephen F. Austin - 60
9. Houston Baptist - 59
We'll see what happens. Out of the 4 teams from the SLC competing this year, ACU is 2nd. For now, I ranked both SFA and HBU ahead of us though becasue they have played. This coming Saturday will say a lot. Do we deserve to be middle of the FCS competing pack?

Seriously?

Not that it matters more than the pixels used to type/display this...but why?

Mercer was not good last year...and they rioted & looted all over the Cantamounts...in Cullowhee.

Mercer, lost very little talent wise (WR David Durden’s Xfer to W. FL is the biggest loss) and made a Coaching change, bringing in a Head Coach with a career HC record of 47-6.

WCU gave a contract extension to their HC, with a Career HC record of 32-54, winning 2 or fewer SoCon games in 5 of 8 his seasons, and they lost the most dynamic Player in the history of their program.

C’mon man!

UTEP has played two games, ACU none.

ACU is playing so many transfers and new players none of us really know what to expect.

I’m still inclined to agree with you but im not real comfortable with that pick.
