Two more picks signed

06/21/07

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie linebacker Chad Nkang and offensive lineman Andrew Carnahan to contracts today. Nkang and Carnahan were drafted with the Jaguars’ final two picks in the seventh round. The two are among the 11 players selected by the Jaguars in the 2007 NFL Draft in April. Seven of the 11 draft picks have now signed contracts.

Nkang, 21, was the 251st overall selection in the draft and was the first of two compensatory picks in the seventh round by the Jaguars. The 5-11, 215-pound linebacker started his last 33 games played at linebacker after moving from starting fullback as a freshman at Elon. The Hyattsville, Maryland native earned All-America honors twice after recording 414 career tackles, 8.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles and two interceptions.

Carnahan, 23, was the 252nd overall selection in the draft and was the second of two compensatory picks in the seventh round by the Jaguars. The 6-6, 305-pound offensive tackle started all 37 games played at offensive tackle at Arizona State. The Hereford, Texas native missed the final eight games of his senior season after suffering a knee injury in Week Five. Carnahan played under current Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, who was Arizona State’s head coach.

The only drafted players not yet signed are Reggie Nelson, Justin Durant, Mike Walker and Derek Landri. The Jaguars will return to the practice fields when training camp begins on Saturday, July 28.
