What a pick upxthumbsupx

"James (Jim) Svoboda, who served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at UCLA last fall, has joined Montana State’s staff as quarterbacks coach, Bobcat head coach Rob Ash announced on Tuesday."

“We’re excited to have a coach of Jim Svoboda’s caliber joining our staff,” Ash said. “Jim and I go way back. We have coached against each other, recruited against each other and I have watched him win national championships. I have great respect for him and he brings a standard of excellence to our student-athletes both on and off the field.”

why from UCLA to MSU? Seems like a good hire, but I'm not sure I understand going from OC in the PAC-10 to QB coach in the Big Sky.

Who cares why. Now Rolo and Carpenter will have somebody that is a little more competent than Mr. Bonehead (Bailey of course). Maybe we'll see some serioud development at that position this year.xthumbsupx
Nice pickup for the good guys!!!

Not to downplay him in any way, I'm really excited about the hire, but he was let go last Thurs. as OC at UCLA. Svoboda apparently has old ties to Ash- a great get at this time of year with Ash putting his staff together. With the credentials Svoboda has, I doubt if he'll be at MSU more than a season, but he's a big plus in the meantime.xthumbsupx

Fired? Bruin fans were not pleased about their offensive output?

Rumor was the entire UCLA staff was to be fired until they upset USC.

They're complaining because they put up 31 points a game? Cripes! Come on down coach! If you can help MSU put up 31 points a game, then you're our man!

"Svoboda was handicapped during his year as coordinator by a lack of knowledge of the West Coast offense. In his time as a lower-division offensive coordinator, Svoboda’s offenses excelled by running multiple offensive formations, including the spread, a formation that is becoming prominent in college football. In the rigid offensive system of Dorrell, Svoboda seemed to have trouble raising the level of the playcalling."

'Boda is an excellent coach and he did not have a bad year, he was the
sacrifical lamb for the Bruins. MSU should be happier than a martyr when
the fire won't burn.xnodx xnodx

Karl Dorrell has made a lot of changes like that since he has been at UCLA. Doesn't say much for him as a head coach. You have to wonder why he makes a change like that. Svoboda has a long track record and is a good pickup for MSU.
