Did Furman take in a bunch of walk-ons to the team this year?

At offensive line? No.

Furman's head coach is an offensive line guru. Most of their commits on OL the past few years have been highly competitive commits (guys with a dozen or more offers including P5 schools). The only conclusion I can draw is that these guys want to play for this particular coach.

For Furman, sheer size really isn't that important to the coaching staff. Furman wants lean offensive linemen that are athletic and mobile. They've got no interest in a bunch of overweight players. Most of these guys can run and carry their weight very well.

Another unique feature of the Paladin line, as PaladinNation notes, is that Furman runs linemen on and off the field constantly. Most of the line can play multiple positions. Furman even rotates the center, which you almost never see. They run a lot of unbalanced lines and you'll even see the offensive line shift presnap instead of the backfield.

Wyatt Hughes was a PWO. Garland Greenway was a prep school kid and walked on as a TE last year, but he's made the move to OL not uncommon under CCH.

By my count that's 13 offensive linemen on scholarship at Furman. The two of three incoming linemen had power five offers (Illinois, Iowa St, South Carolina, Kentucky). Furman appears to be getting the big uglies they want.
