Fun article explaining what Angelo State would need to go to Div I. Apparently, some folks thought that when Angelo St left the Texas State University System for the Texas Tech system that something would change as it relates to their athletic status...

What does the Tech switch mean for ASU?

Is it time to look into moving up to Division I athletics?

No — but apparently some people already think they are.

Thanks to ASU’s upcoming realignment into the Texas Tech University System, some folks think the Rams and ’Belles are going to join the Red Raiders in the D-I athletic ranks, too.

ASU Athletic Director Kathleen Brasfield said she has encountered that misconception recently.

She has to tell people dreaming of ASU becoming the 13th member of the Big 12 Conference that they are mistaken.

Yeah some of the fans think they're gonna be the 13th member of the big 12. Funny

Angelo State is not even one of the top schools in my mind when it comes to Texas schools with a potential to move to Div I.

West Texas A&M and Tarleton State come to mind first, as does A&M-Kingsville...

I agree, I think West Texas, and Tarleton, and Kingville hasn't been as great, but they still do have support. I would also say Midwestern St. has more support to make the move than ASU.

There are a number of schools that I think could make the jump to FCS in the near future. Tarleton has expressed interest in moving up within the next 10 years.

The two things that I see Angelo having above Tarleton and Kingsville are larger facilities and a 'urban environment'. San Angelo is a regional hub for the ranchers in the middle of West Texas. They could probably find more local money, and bodies for the stands if they began to look at this move.
