Florida International is rebuilding their stadium (http://www.fiusports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=49159&SPID=4780&DB_OEM_ID=11700&ATCLID=900295). It should be completed by the season opener in 2008 against the USF Bulls. I'll have to take a trip to see it when it's completed.

That makes more sense than the ridiculous 40k seat carrier dome rip of in Boca Raton FL that FAU wanted to build.

Wow those before pictures are awful, that stadium is just terrible if they were an FCS squad they would be a strong canidate for the worst stadium in the thread on teh smack board. How is that a FBS facility, their is no way they meet the minimum attendance requirement. The Miami hurricanes dont even draw well unless they are in national championship contention, I cant imagine FIU gets anybody at their games. Personally I think a student-athlete is crazy to go to a school like that, and not a good FCS school. Seriously would you rather go to FIU and play in the sun-belt which is a lose amagalmation of schools with little tradition and get pounded by the rest of FBS. Or go to a school like Southern with great tradition, great fan support, and one of the best games in college football in the Bayou classis and play your arch rival on national televison.

That choice was easy for me to make. I wouldn't want any thing to do with the Sun Belt. I don't think that team would have had much success at the FCS level. But that new stadium will be worlds better than the Orange Bowl. Nobody really draws at the FBS level in Florida but the Gators and the Noles.

not only is it bad, but it is ridiculously far away from the field. I know tracks keep it far away, but it looks really far from the field.

Is that a press box I see in the pictures?

I played there and it was horrible. They didn't get 2000 people then, not sure if they can fill a 40,000 stadium "in a blink of an eye" like he says, but more power to them if they can.

It'll take a heck of a home schedule to draw 40,000 to the stadium.

I think this school shot their wad a little too early in moving to FBS. I mean, their stadium is in a lot of ways like my old high school stadium, which is putting down FIU a WHOLE LOT, considering that
1) They are an FBS SCHOOL
2) My old high school's stadium is sub-par even by Minnesota standards.
I present to you: THE PRIDE OF THE SUN BELT CONFERENCE!!!
What a wonderful scoreboard. Just about good enough to make half the DII schools envy it.

This looks eerily similar to the underbelly of the home side stands of my old high school's bleachers.

I have never seen worn-out, peeling field turf before. and just LOOK at these HUGE opposite side bleachers!!!

THIS IS AN FBS SCHOOL, PEOPLE!!!
No other way to put it, this program should not have moved to FBS so soon.

Does FIU still play football? What a joke that FIU and FAU went FBS.

If you saw their record from last year, they didn't play much football. xlolx

FAU and FIU play a game or two in Dolphin Stadium every year. So they have access to pro facilities. Both are in the process of building new facilites. Those photos are from the temporary FIU stadium they built, not the one they are building. Keep in mind those guys have only had programs for about 5 years. Both are either building or have plans to build nice facilites and they have schools like Michigan State and Oklahoma State visiting Miami.
FAU went from not having a program at all to a top 4 finish in year 3 in FCS. I wouldn't joke on either after USF went from having double wides as football offices and playing at schools like Cumberland and Kentucky Wesleyan to BCS in 5 years all because of location. They are very similar type large commuter schools.

I'm very aware of the strides that USF has made. I think with the proper leadership the same things are in store for FAU and FIU. But it's a long road ahead of them.

Make as much fun of FIU right now!! FIU will be laughing soon.
They have some extremely large endowments, plenty of money going their way $$$$ and this stadium is just one of the many improvements in store for this school. I agree that this stadium would never be the SWAMP or "The Big House" but its going to be better place to catch a game than the Orange Dump (bowl)
FIU has come long way in the last 10 years. The school completely revamped their business program to be one of the best in the International arena (my field), and remember the other Florida schools (the ones that matter UF, FSU) are all maxed-out in admissions and U of MIAMI is too expensive, this school has large potential in the near future.
FIU made a great recruiting case for my wife and I, (they were the largest financial offer we received, but we choose to go with tradition and a higher academic rank to begin our careers), they are recruiting well and paying high salaries to attract top faculty.
If I was a football recruit fresh out of HS with no chance for a top FBS school and and have to choose bettween Apalachian, NDSU, Montana (Boone, Fargo and Missoula) or FIU and the crappy Sunbelt in "MIAMI" let me think.....(5 miles to Southbeach, near Key West....sunny, nice weather, lightly dresses women, night life, good academic program, access to a large international job market after graduation...and did I said Miami already????).
****I would not use a MEAC and SWAC school as comparisons for Div 1 sports.... they are glorified Div II who have seen better days and are unable to complete at todays FCS football level (and Div I basketball).
The choice is a no brainer, "Welcome to MIAMI"

I am an exception but I'd be at App, or Ga South or Southern or a myriad of other schools before FIU. Miami is nice, but thats about all it has to offer in my mind.

I guess we should all be happy that the football players we get at our schools are more serious about football and a good education than you are. xrolleyesx
