It really isn't enpowering, it is still oppressing them to their image. Using SugarBears or Lady whatever, it is oppressing them to there gender, but they are athletes.

I really like the Stanford Tree. It's unofficial, and it doesn't really match the Univeristy's nickname. But students in the band have been carrying on the tradition for a long long time.

Teal chickens aren't so bad. Teal chickens with TEETH - now that's ridiculous.

I loved the Fighting Christians - it's funny because it's true. Phoenix is just awful. Talk about first to worst.

As for my alma mater, it's not terribly imaginative to nickname a NC Mountain school the 'Mountaineers,' but Yosef hs a pretty good backstory. Plus, he's something of a white-guy stereotype, so, in a way, he exposes the NCAA's mascot-policing double standard. Yosef isn't at the top of the mascot list, but he's not awful.

The University of Illinois S&M Lincolns is either the best or worst, depending on your sense of humor.

I saw a cooking show where they went out into the mud flats during low tide and dug these things out of the sand/mud. The assistant/girl told the host that she didn't want to say what these things felt like and then when she pulled it out of the ground, it released all its water all over her shirt. It could be the funniest most unintentionally funny thing I have ever seen. I was laughing for a good 15 minutes afterward. Seriously, true story. It was on tv only a couple weeks ago.

I tried to find the ESPN footage of the fight that they had in the endzone, but I could only find a write up. It was a great fight that the security had to finally break up. It started out as the usual good-natured fake scuffle, a half-hearted tussle; but, after the Chief Brave Spirit Mascot ripped Vic the Demon's head off, Vic landed several round house haymakers to the chief's neck (which turned out to be the jaw of the guy inside).
