The Falcons are expecting to release a new look in April.
I'm hoping that the Birds release an updated "throw back" look to their black/red simpler design of the 80s and 90s. Those jerseys are still widely popular with fans.
I see this in professional sports pretty routinely - a team has their jersey and logo, but if you scan the crowd at a game, most folks are wearing the "old" stuff. Give the fans what they want, not some updated junk. There's very little risk in updating what is already iconic and popular.

As an original Pats bandwagon fan (from the Bledsoe/Parcells) era due to the Raiders leaving LA) this hurts given all the other nonsense going on right now. I really thought it would work out that he would come back for two more seasons. He definitely has something left in the tank so long as he's able to stay healthy. I do trust BB and the current roster's ability to continue at a playoff level. I rather they roll with Stidham than go for a Rivers or even Newton.
At this point I'm hoping for TB in TB. Arians is a former coach at Temple and their DC Todd Bowles is a Temple alum so it would be easy to root for them from afar like I do with the Eagles. I also have a soft spot in my heart for the Bills since I've been attending games there for years.

Too much injury history for Wentz to not have a "Plan B" in place.
Howie Roseman quoted the experience of the 2012 draft as a factor in the decision. That means RG3 and Cousins both drafted by the Redskins that year and/or the "reach" for Russell Wilson by the Seahawks when they didn't "need" a quarterback. One proved prescient, the other has worked out quite well.

Not concerned but I think they would have been better off using that pick on a more glaring need. You can get a backup QB later in the draft or as a FA. If he can make a handful of plays to help them win games than it was a good pick I suppose. Time will tell.

As some people on here probably know, the NFL is essentially prohibited from playing on Saturdays (and Friday nights), or more accurately is prohibited from televising its games on Friday nights and Saturdays, between the second Friday in September and second Saturday in December by federal law if regular season high school and/or college football games are played on those days.
It is possible the NFL could still be in violation of the law (i.e. the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961) if some high schools around the U.S. play Saturday, particularly Saturday evening, games in fall 2020. The NFL would not be able to televise their games within a 75 mile radius of the high school game sites.
(Incidentally, the rule was put in place as a trade-off for the NFL's desire to have a national TV contract that represented all of the teams in the league. Before that, a national TV contract representing all of the teams in the league was considered a violation of anti-trust laws. The NFL's long-time blackout rules were/are also tied to the revised law.)

I said nothing about ratings.
No, you didn’t. You said, “People dont go to sporting events to have political bull**** forced down their throats.”
I extrapolated that comment to include TV Ratings for 2 reasons...
1) because TV Ratings matter as much as, or maybe more than, game attendance does to the NFL
2) in Covid-restricted times, using an attendance metric (only) to reach a conclusion as to whether or not people want (or are willing to accept) new political statements as part of the ‘package’ they get when they attend is just not feasible or reasonable.
So...you say people don’t want to see your definition of ‘political statements’ & Jay says these (relatively) new statements being made are no more political than things he defines as ‘political” that have long been part of NFL Football.
If you’re right - well if you’ll allow another tweak to use ‘won’t accept’ vs. ‘don’t want’ - then TV ratings over time (this season) will drop & eventually, attendance will, as well.
If he’s (kinda) right, (only “kinda” cuz actually determining the degree of something’s ‘political-ness’ is pretty much impossible) as my sense is he was saying that people will be OK with (or at least accept) it...or maybe he was implying “should accept” which, if he was, opens a whole different can of red wigglers about Jay’s role as the moral compass of NFL fans...then the TV ratings should stay constant or grow.
Personally, as stated, I don’t care. That said, I think you are right.
I don’t think people want to go to an NFL game or watch one on TV and be bombarded with messages about systemic racism OR 2nd Amendment Rights OR immigration reform OR Right-to-Life OR Ethical Treatment of Animals OR rights of Syrian refugees OR Income Inequality or anything else from either side of our great political divide. They really only want to watch Football.
Look, there’s no arguing that Prevention & Treatment of Breast Cancer is a worthy cause, but as a former HS Coach, there wasn’t a week I hated worse than Breast Cancer Awareness Week. My Players spent half of the week thinking about how they were going to be the kid with the most outrageous pink addition to their uniform and 3/4 of the stuff they added ended up on the ground after every play - just a giant poop-show every year. FUBeAR dang near started hating breasts themselves for all of the trouble - just kidding.
But, peeps, we watch sports to be distracted. We don’t want to be distracted from our distractions. I love the Flag, and the National Anthem and I sing it out loud when I’m at games, but the whole time, I’m thinking...“Hurry up...Let’s kick off...I WANT TO SEE FOOTBALL...NOW!!!” A really cool flyover with very loud and very cool jets...different story...but that’s the only thing that she be allowed to delay kickoff.
Get rid of the anthem, get rid of invocations, get rid of all of it... FUBeAR...and really, most people, just want to watch a friggin’ game.... Right?

I've said for years that Collinsworth has to have some serious dirt on at least one person in a position of significant power at NBC in order to keep his job. He is worse than the average high school radio color commentary. By far the most enjoyable SNF broadcast I have ever watched was on a cruise in October 2018 - ESPN International had the rights to show the video but not the sound. All you heard was crowd noise, PA announcements, and the referee. No Collinsworth made it great!

Having watched this debacle in PA, it has been cringe-worthy. The one thing about the NFC Least getting a homefield, at least this year, doesn't mean much without the nutty fans. It is hard to recall such a regression of a ballyhooed QB five years into his career. While I concede that Wentz has been impacted by all of the injuries around him, he has not reacted well. Mistakes one shakes their head at in high school games. I would give Hurts a shot at this juncture. "Making" the playoffs from this division is meaningless, so why not see if Hurts is the real deal and how he handles himself under similar condition that Wentz has experienced?

Something is wrong with Wentz. I was one of the first one's on the Wentz Wagon. I've watched him play more than any other player. Hell, I want to be that guy that's still sitting on the bandwagon while every else is abandoning ship saying just you wait. But something really isn't right with him.
The area I fell in love with early on back at NDSU and throughout his whole career was his mental understanding and speed of the game. That's what's missing. They always talk about the game slowing down for QBs as they advance. Well, the game sped up on him, and really that doesn't make sense.
The only explanation I can come up with is he's just taken too many shots to the head. He's just not mentally where he was and where he needs to be.

IMO: total fail in this explanation
Injuries on the whole offensive side has not be a benefit. To me, he is pressing too hard to make a play. He holds on to the ball too long for that WR to get open or finding the checkdown. Plus the OL has been horrible with the injuries and missed starts. OL needs to be revamped in the offseason. Get Wentz out in space also. Very good on rollouts and boots. Plus let him run some. Take advantage of his running....not great but he is mobile. Cannot have bubblewrap on him and hamstring him. He carried the whole team the last 5 games last year and this year he is trying to carry the team and pressing way too much.

The Oline has some talent when healthy and like I said they have ebbed and flowed from ok to poor depending on health. But I’m not debating the OL.
I disagree with the pressing. Tbh he holds the ball way too long. You watch good QB play like the Wentz of past years they pretty much know where they want to go pre snap and they can make a good pass rush look pointless because the balls out before a DE can get up field.
Some of that you could blame on poor play design and call but just like OL, running game, WRs you can blame all other aspects and somewhat rightfully but if you’re objective and watch the tape Wentz is not playing to the level he has in past years.

The play calling by Carolina in the last 4 minutes of the game against the Vikes has been absolutely putrid.

The Eagles have announced Hurts as the starter. I've recently been critical of Wentz's poor play and I don't disagree with going with Hurts at this point, but Wentz IMO should demand a trade. He won't because that's not who he is, but that would be his best move at this point.
The Eagles are completely ****ed offensively going into next year. Howie has them like 65 million over the cap already. Jeffrey and Jackson almost surely have to get cut and should be as neither has done anything. Ertz is on the down swing although he may want more money. IMO, he could just as well get cut, but most likely won't. Which leaves basically Goedert and Raeger. That's the two best weapons on this offense. Fulgam and Ward are secondary flash players that cannot produce in a spotlight role.
Miles Sanders is alright but not a game changer and the offensive line with Johnson, Kelce, and Brooks while great players they also are some of the most expensive as well. And they still got to figure out how to get two more guys on the line and hopefully keep the big ticket guys healthy which hasn't happened this year.
In conclusion, they are going to have to make massive cuts which will include on the defensive side which I think is good if they could keep it together. But the only way they could add some talent to this offense is through the draft and Howie has been pretty unimpressive at finding offensive talent.

I plan on following the game with Hurts as QB, if they now come up with a bunch of plays to get him outside the pocket, I am going to ****ing break something. Also, I want somebody here to post a video of a Philly receiver making a catch that is not a routine grab. I watch a lot of football and see a lot of great plays from receivers, I can't remember a single catch by an Eagle that was "great". They don't have playmakers and haven't for quite a while. It is a mess and Wentz shares some of the blame but holy **** what a dumpster fire that place is.

The Eagles WRs are the worst in the game. Fulgam was cut by the Lions (the 5-7 Lions). He leads the team in catches and yards.
Reagor reminds me of Agholor. Good, but not great and he's got the most potential. They need to hit on a couple WRs in the draft but they also need to hit on some offensive lineman in the draft. If not, I don't care if it's Hurts or Wentz it's going to be a struggle next year.
I don't want to see Wentz for the rest of the season. He should focus on footwork, arm mechanics. Get back to basics. Trying to put together a gameplan with garbage isn't going to do him much good, and honestly even if the Eagles won the NFC East they will get crushed in the playoffs.

Carson is mobile but I'm sure the coaching staff has said "no running" which sucks because he can extend plays with his feet. Let him run and move around.
Offensive game plan is crap and Peterson needs to improve significantly or get someone else calling plays.

Orchard Park is an awesome place for a NFL games. It's definitely up there with Lambeau and Arrowhead in terms of old school, coolness. It's located in a neighborhood (people park in yards) so there's definitely a Lambeau feel to it. There's been rumors for years regarding a new stadium. Honestly, I hope they keep the current facility and give it a legit Lambeau/Arrowhead renovation.

Troy Aikman was in Chicago to announce a football game one weekend when he noticed a special telephone near the Bears bench. He asked a nearby player what it was used for and was told it was a hotline to God. Troy asked if he could use it. The player told him, "Sure, but it will cost you $100.00 (http://100.0.0.0/)."
Troy scratched his head, then thought, what the heck. I could use some help picking games. He pulled out his wallet and paid the $100.00 (http://100.0.0.0/). Troy 's picks were perfect that week.
The next week, Troy was in Texas when he noticed that same kind of phone on the Cowboys' bench. He asked what the telephone was for and was told "It's a hotline to God. If you want to use it, it will cost you $500.00."
Recalling last weekend, Troy pulled out his wallet and made the call. Troy 's picks were perfect again that week!
The next weekend Troy was in Green Bay at Lambeau Field when he noticed the same kind of phone by the Packers' bench. He asked Aaron Rodgers "Is that the hotline to God?" Aaron said, "Yes, but it will cost you 35 cents".
Troy looked incredulously at Aaron and said, '"Wait a second, I just paid $100.00 (http://100.0.0.0/) in Chicago and $500.00 in Texas to use the same phone to God. Why does Green Bay only charge 35 cents?"

The Colts make so much sense. Wentz's old OC and QBC are there. Rumors are that Reich was almost let go in '16 but Wentz advocated for keeping him. The Colts have a ****load of cap room. Plenty to take on Wentz's contract.
Meanwhile Philly is in all sorts of cap trouble. Head coach is gone. Rumors are Ertz (good friend of Wentz) is on the chopping block. The fans seem to want to see him gone. Wentz is rumored to want out, but hasn't stated that publicly.
The only issue is the Colts don't seem to want to give up much and don't seem to want to get into a bidding war.
Rumors that the Bears actually have sent the best offer. The Raiders apparently are also in the mix. Possibly Carr for Wentz.

If by "the whole show sucked" you mean everything after the nice rendition of God Bless America, I agree wholeheartedly.
The Anthem was butchered (AGAIN) and the game was no contest.

Somebody took the time to track Mahomes and how many yards he ran scrambling around and it came up to 497 or something.

So close for a former Bison getting at TD. Hitchens knocks the ball away as Haeg is bringing the ball down.

They should just play a recording of Whitney Houston's anthem from the 1991 Super Bowl... it's all down hill from there.

I think she forever ruined the national anthem. Her rendition was perfect and as far as someone can take that song vocally IMO. Most everyone else since then butchers it because either they try and outdo her, or they’re not talented enough to do what she did. Every once in a while we hear a great version like Lady Gaga a few years ago before the Broncos/Panthers super bowl but far too often it’s cringe inducing.

You would think most players would want to be honored for their volunteer and charity work, but it's also an honor be voted MVP. Just a wild guess, but I would bet the winner of either award, would have rather played and won the game last night.
I follow the Packers on Facebook. They have been crowing about Rodgers’ MVP all week.
Yeah, good for him but he still didn’t make the Super Bowl. But at least he will get to host Jeopardy.

My original post said Rodgers would probably rather be in the Super Bowl. Fans will be fans though.

With all your posts in the Social Justice Thread, you should have been thrilled to see so many "the NFL supports racial equality" messages. The fact that you didn't even notice stresses the point that it was, indeed, "prattle" since it was of such little substance.

I think we have a difference of opinion of what social justice is.

Agreed. It appears that racial equality/equal opportunity ISN'T part of your definition. So be it; we'll just have different definitions and that's okay.

Your definition is all about race, mine is that everyone should be treated with the same respect they deserve, across the board and people that have worked for that should be celebrated, for example Martin Luther King or Sakakawea.

I never said it was just about race. I said it appears that YOUR definition doesn't include racial equality based on your not noticing the NFL "message" during Super Bore LV.
I agree that everyone should be treated with the respect they deserve. That's why I have no respect for the BLM organization or for Antifa or for QAnon. It is my opinion that all of those groups have proven that they do not deserve respect. Respect is earned, not given. Failure to respect based on assumptions/prejudices is wrong; failure to respect based on actions is acceptable.
And I believe you mean Sacagawea, although that doesn't change your consistent narrative (unless members of the clans of aboriginal peoples of North America are offended by misspelling of their names).

They are going to have to change the name on that big assed lake in ND they named after her.

Sacagawea, Sakakawea or Sacajawea are all correct. Again, you are just looking for something to complain about that isn't even there. And Pod follows suit with his babble.
And you are wrong about my definition, just looking to argue again.
