Unbelieveable..just as they piss me off with their lousy performance at home, they go up to NY and are one game from sweeping the 'Dark Side' onto their butts.
J-Rol smiling into the teeth of the beast hits a 3-run homer to win tonight's game. Mets fans have been on Jimmy's azz all season because of his preseason comments, but Jimmy has delivered against the Metronomes this year. Eaton gave them a big lift tonight as well. Victorino guns down another runner tagging up from third at the plate--and Barajas finally does his job blocking the plate. Get the brooms out!!xthumbsupx

Another good game from the Phillies last night. It sickens me to say that as a Mets fan, but I'll give credit when it's due. :-)

The Mets offense has been virtually non-existent recently. The injuries have played a huge role in that of course. The starting pitching is there, but the offense has been struggling. Also, every time I see Heilman out there now I'm getting Benitez flashbacks. That's not a good thing.

Due to the age of many of the Mets starters I went into this season fully expecting injuries. I just wasn't expecting the Mets to be plagued by them all at the same time. That might have been foolish on my part, although it's really just bad luck.

Chavez has to be out at least 15 days (this I'm more upset about than the loss). Another outfielder hurt...great. Now Ricky Ledee (yes THAT Ricky Ledee) might get the call up.

The Mets get Valentin back tonight at least, but I can't expect too much out of him. He is our 8th hitter after all and now will be forced to hit either in the 2 or the 6 spot. His glove at 2nd is much better than Easley's and might be better than most 2nd baseman's gloves in the NL short of Hudson. That should help some.

The good news (sort of) is that last night's loss was the Mets 3rd in a row. This is actually the Mets first 3 game losing streak all season. That's impressive. They lasted longer in that department than any other team in the majors (beating the Red Sox out by one day). I'll take that.

That definitely was a great throw by Victorino. It was also terrible base running by Delgado. Surely he can run faster than that and that slide was terrible. If Delgado didn't catch his cleat in the ground when he started his slide he might actually have been safe.

Actually if he continues this up they'll be comparing his arm to Clemente's. You can tell he really thrives on the challenge of throwing the runners out.xnodx

Get the brooms out!!

Normally I would laugh out loud at this type of statement and proceed to make fun of Phillies fans for the rest of my day. Which of course is really easy to do and totally played out, but I get enjoyment out of it nonetheless. xthumbsupx

I wont do this today though because Hamels has just been ridiculous.

The Phils are equally annoying just as they are fun - you sit there and watch most of the game and get fed up at missed oppurtunities and bad plays, and then they mix in great plays like Victorino's cannon from right (seriously, why are guys still running on him? With outfielder's like that you normally see their outfield assists plummet because they never get the chance - people apparently don't believe he has an arm yet), Howard's great defensive play at first in the bottom of the 7th, and of course Rollins's huge jack on a 1-2 count and 2 outs. And how about Eaton? The guy's a Met killer - he's actually 5-0 lifetime now against the Mets. Go figure.

What's annoying, though, is that the Phils aren't far away from being a real good team - right now they are just a team that will finish a few games over .500. Through in a new 3B, a new LF, 3 arms in the bullpen, and another starter (move Myers back) and they're pretty good. Of course, we knew all that last December and nothing's happened since. xrolleyesx

Pretty soon 3rd base coaches won't be sending their runners unless Victorino makes the catch on the warning track. Hell, I wouldn't send any of the Mets on his arm except for Reyes (maybe Wright & Beltran too depending on the game situation).

It's always nice to beat the Mutts, especially in NY. Mutts fans (with the possible exception of Whitey here) are the most obnoxious in the NL. They sit there, sweating and unshaven, with their grimy wife-beaters and lined-up beer bottles, and bellow all night. And the men are even worse!:p

The injuries in the outfield are really starting to catch up with the Mets.

Going a short while with Endy Chavez works fine, but we're starting to see why he's a role player. Jose Reyes has no protection and the whole bottom third of the lineup is a joke right now.

I'm sure teams are loving the Endy Chavez/Carlos Gomez combo MUCH better than Alou/Green. With the pitching they're getting in this series, they should have won both games...with their regular lineup.

Looks like Alou is delayed once again as well. Green and Valentin should be back by next week at the latest though, which would be a nice boost. Still Mets fans have to feel pretty confident that they've dealt with all of the injuries and a cold lineup for two weeks and maintained the same lead on the Braves and only lost a 1/2 game to the preseason favorites from Philly.

Yeah, but we can thank the Phillies for a lot of that, since they swept the Braves. I don't think the Phillies have a complete enough team to really catch the Mets over the long haul, but they are awfully scary right now.

The Phils' achilles heel is their middle relief in the pen. The last two wins occured because the pen did it's job holding on. Too many of these guys ahve been inconsistent. When Myers and Gordon return, that will help alot. Howard is starting to make some noise. Now, if only Burrell would do something, then things would be scary.

I've always thought Madson is better than people give him credit for. They might have screwed him up a bit by starting him early last year, but he's tough for one or two innings out of the pen.

I agree Madson has shown signs of brilliance...then he relapses..If he finds consistency he'll be great.

I was thinking of heading to a bar to watch tonight's game on the MLB Extra Innings package. However, it's a 4PM start in AZ, and I'm fielding phone calls up until 5-5:30. That and I really ought not be spending money in a bar at this time.

I might go watch tommorrow night's game against KC. That will be a 5PM start here. Besides, I'm thinking of putting money on the Royals to sweep the Phils. Not that I think KC is that good, it's just that losing 3 to the Royals is something the Phils are liable to do.

That KC bet might pay off, at least 2 out of 3. The Phils have an atrocious record in interleague play, and they've managed to lose series to the woeful Tampa Bay team in consecutive years. Burrell is hopeless. I can't wait for him to leave town. "Mr. April."xrolleyesx

Burrell sucks!!!!

I was actually irritated last night when they brought him in to pinch hit in the 7th with runners on second and third. You need a guy with a better chance of putting the ball in play in that situation.

Keith Hernandez on the SNY broadcast pretty said something similiar. Basically he questioned Manuel's decision to PH Burrell in that spot saying essentially, "yes the guy has been a Met killer...but right now he's an automatic strikeout". Or something like that. Then about 20 seconds later Burrell struck out.

I believe they call him "Pat the Bat" due to his "member" being quite busy with the ladies. Clearly it has nothing to do with his abilities at the plate.

WOW---not an automatic K tonight. What an ending! Yes Burrell seems to be more of liability, but tonight was classic--against Wagner, no less.
Let's hope they can keep this momentum going..

The best was hearing Wagner talk about it afterwards - said something like Burrelly only has a swing through one spot and he (Wagner) just happened to throw it to that spot. Hey, I'd like to have Wagner on my team, and what he said about Burrell is pretty accurate, but he comes off as being pretty much a prick. He had a lot of stuff to say about the Phillies and certain players once he got to the safety of the Mets clubhouse after he signed as a free agent, but never uttered a peep about those things while he was in Philly. Like I said, I'd still take him on my team and like to see him out there in the 9th, but he still comes off sounding like a less than desirable person.

Wagner is a gutless azzhole. I'll never forget the two games that Billy blew against the Astros (his former team, no less) coming down the stretch in 2005.xnonono2x xnonono2x

No such thing for the Phillies. It would be right in character for the Phils to sweep the Mets and then turn around and lose a series to bottom dweller like KC.

Despite that collapse, Phils had plenty of opportunities to get back and blew a bunch of scoring chances..Utley stuck out FOUR times!? Gotta win tomorrow to get back in the saddle..
