Inspired from the Oden/Durant thread..... let's see what ya got.

My best ever is 275.
I'm 5'10" and weighed 165 when I did it.

Best ever or best in this day and age? My best ever was 315 and that was in my playing days. Today I max out at 225. At this point in my life I have no reason to keep up with the younger guys. Also need to save some energy for those 12 ounce bicep curls. xnodx

Shouldn't this be in the AGS Lounge??

Anyhoo...most I've done was 280 a couple weeks ago. Not bad considering I'm 5'6" and weigh 160 pounds...xwhistlex

Just to compare to Durant...my warm-up starts at 185... ;)

Most one time rep for me would be 355lb but our coach was a rep guy and had a chart to calculate your "max" during spring and summer testing, so I like to throw out my 300x11 reps for a 405 max although people seem more impressed when I give my 275x9=375 incline max.

BTW, I could come nowhere near those numbers today. I rarely go over 225 these days, 5x10.

I haven't done a one-time 'max' in years (don't really feel like getting a spotter to hold the bar for such a quest). What would my max be for my current 280X5? xreadx

I can't remember the exact numbers of course. But the upper body chart would increase approxiamtely 7-10 lbs per rep, depending on the weight being lifted. I would venture add 9.5 lbs per rep for 280, giving you @315-325? Not completely sure.

I maxed out at 450 some years ago. I can barely get 300 up now.

Right now its around 365, but I never max out though. I work part time at the local gym and I work out 4 day a week so I can probably knock out more than that.

315 two years ago at age 46... I have no idea what it would be now as I don't lift that heavy any more and I never really trained for my chest.

Mine is a measley 245, but in the building where I work (we have a gym) there's a guy who is into powerlifting competitions....he benches 685 lbs. xeekx xeekx xeekx xeekx xeekx I've seen it with my own eyes....takes THREE spotters and the bar bends like nothing you've ever seen....He also dead lifts almost 900. Last week I topped off 225 7 and a half times, I'm not trying to bulk up real bad, so I don't usually go that high, but I wanted to see what I could do/impress ladies. Usually when i'm working out I stay around the 200 range and just do sets of 10 though.

Nope. I know the guy pretty well...he's a personal trainer, and when he's not training someone, he's training himself....very dedicated, and not "ripped" or "cut" like juicers. Just a large man. He's the guy building security calls when they need "backup". xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

Speaking of bench pressing, does anybody remember Ted Arcidi? He' the dude who benched 705 lbs sometime in the mid 80's. Anyway Arcidi went to Tufts University for a time, I'm not sure if he played football or not while he was there, but I knew a guy who was at Tufts the same time Arcidi was, he was telling me that Arcidi used to inject himself with steroids that were used for thoroughbred horses. Surprisingly Arcidi is still alive and doing pretty well from what I hear. He owns a gym and several small businesses on the side.

Is that the guy who had to cut open his butthole with a razor because his butt muscles tightened up so much he was constipated for 8 weeks and couldn’t take the pain any longer?

On of my team mates lived in a dorm with two brothers who were power lifters. Pat and John Anderson. John was older and more serious about power lifting. His brother, Pat, hung out with us. Good guys, power lifters don't look like body builders thats for sure.
Oh well, it was worth asking.

Cobblestone - yeah I remember hearing about Ted Arcidi. Those guys I was just talking about actually went and saw him lift. For some reason, I think he did it in a mall or something.

hmm, funny how the classic weightlifting question always is "so whatdaya bench?". Why not Squat or deadlift?

I've never maxed out on bench because it is incredibly hard on your shoulders for what you get out of the workout and the numbers don't really mean much to me, but I guess I have done 19 reps @225lbs. I'm 5' 9 3/4" 165lbs.

19 reps at 225 is very very impressive.

So whatdaya squat? :)
Everyone loves to work the upperbody, but nothing stops the room when someone puts on 4 plates on the squat bar and reps out with the bar bouncing and bending.

That's not normal. You aren't supposed to go that low anyway only until your hamstring is parallel to the floor. Worst thing I've seen is someone crapping themselves.

Max'd out @ 325lbs while 5' 11.5" lol and weighing a grand ol' 197lbs. I used to warmup w/ 4-5X10 of 225lbs and then proceed from there. In fact, I'd take the 45lb bar w/ only 2 45s on it and do a "one-armed" bench press to really warmup and also produce power and maintain balance. xreadx

Haven't touched a weight in almost 15 years. The most exercise I get now is basketball, home maintenance etal, and sexercise every 2-3 months. lol

Yes. I do remember him and his failed attempt at being a WWF wrestler. He was so terrible as a wrestler. The current world record bnch press single lift is 395.5 kg (871.8 lbsxeekx xeekx xeekx xeekx ) set by Mike Womack of CA on July 15 of last year.

Yeah, after the WWF he entered some local New England wrestling league. He wasn't a good wrestler but in a local league he was a big name ony because of his lifting. I'm just surprised he is still alive today.

I'll tell you what though, if I'm a RB I want Arcidi and Womack blocking for me on 3rd and goal.

Actually, there's two official lifts over 1,000 lbs. Gene Rychlak (1010.0 lb. @ 355.0 lb.) and Scot Mendelson (1008.6 lb. @ 331.0 lb.), both at APF meets last year. Womack's lift is currently #6, but it is the top lift in the WABDL (the top four lifts were all at APF events, and the fifth highest lift was at a WPO event).

Of course, ALL of those lifts are using bench shirts.

The current world record for a raw (no bench shirt) lift is a meager 715 lbs. by Scott Mendelson (who went over 1K with a bench shirt).

My best max in college was 370lbs at 165lbs. In high school 330lbs at 157lbs. Today I would be lucky if could do 275lbs. Was never athletic enough to attempt at playing college ball so I concentrated on Powerlifting.

I saw a few of them back "in the day". It's a tight shirt that some guys who go extremely heavy on the bench will wear. I'm not sure what the material is but my guess is it's something to support the pectoral area.

no bra jokes please.

It s a really REALLY tight shirt made out of some kind of super strength material. The seaming basically forces your arms forward into a perpendicular position from your body. The theory being if your arms are forced forward like that resting, it helps you puch the weight up off your chest.

I've seen a guy wear one one time, you look like a jacka$$ wearing one.

As Mendelton has proven, they can add close to 300 lbs to your bench. You do have to learn some technique to lift with the shirt (such as having to PULL the bar down to you chest). If you just put one on for the first time (with someone else's help), you're probably not going to be able to lift as much as you could without one. There's also suits for squats and deads, as well.

I don't know the exact number, but I believe the record for a "drug-free" raw bench is somewhere around 680. Of course, the term "drug-free" typically only means they found a way to cheat the test, or they weren't currently on a cycle.
