Is it good that the NCAA Basebal playoff is a best of three series double elimination style tournament with 64 teams?
#1 Vanderbilt
#4 Texas
#6 Florida State
#7 Arkansas
#8 Univ. of San Diego
all did not make it out of their own regional.
What if this was March Madness or the FCS Playoffs would that change people's opinion?

I think it's fine the way it is. It just shows how college baseball is growing. You have to bring your A-game every day.

It's fine - baseball is fluky that way, that's just the way it is. In baseball, if you only win 6 out of 10 games (97 wins in MLB) you're normally considered hugely successful. Not many sports are like that.

While it sucks that these teams didn't make the tournament, it tells more about the quality of baseball being played at the mid-major level than it does about the format of the tournament. I vote make no changes. xthumbsupx Besides, with those teams gone, it makes Arizona State's dream of winning the College World Series that much more realistic!

Oh no. That has nothing to do with it. I came up with the idea after I watched Vanderbilt lose last night.
We lost because we sucked it up at the wrong time. No excuses here.

AGriz, it isn't much of a "dream". They are a damn good team and have a very legit shot at making it to Omaha.

Vandy did the same. They had their chance, just like everyone else did, no pity from me for any team that got eliminated. They played at home and still lostxrolleyesx

I actually prefer this to any other format, it's just not practical in other sports.
The "better" team has three chances in two games to win. You would think that this would produce less "upsets." Maybe Vandy wasn't as good as everybody thought they were (or maybe the best pitcher in college baseball made a mistake to somebody Michigan hardly ever uses...)

I am sure the committee is proud of their national seeding job. xoopsx
Vandy almost took the lead in the top of the 10th when Pedro Alvarez hit one to the wall in CF but the michigan OF made a great jumping catch.
Not sure which was more of a surprise - um guy catching the ball, or David Price giving up the winning HR to a .188 batting freshman! xeekx

I like the current format. It allows teams to have an "off" day, and still advance if they get it together.

I see nothing wrong with the format.
The best team doesn't always win, but then again they don't always win the football playoffs or March Madness either and that takes nothing away from those events. If anything, it makes it more exciting because you never know what's going to happen next (for example: Wofford's run to the NCAA's as a 9th seed in the SoCon tourney).

I like the format, too, even though UVA lost again today to Oregon State to be knocked out xoopsx. Pisses me off: the Beavers had to beat UVA twice to advance and did, after UVA beat them in the third game of the regional (following UVA's win over Lafayette and OSU's win over Rutgers in the first round of games). Frustrating, especially yesterday's game where UVA led much of it. Playing at home hasn't worked out the last two years for UVA, as we keep getting knocked out.

Oh, I know that....just that Pat Murphy hasn't won one yet here, and he's constantly compared to Brock, who coached in a time when I believe it was easier (with less competition for good players) to field an ultra competitive team. Theses upsets only confirm my theory....I'd just like to see Murphy get one to cement his legacy....

Its fine, leave it. better than when they only had 48 teams and 6 team regionals with no super regional

I hate the super regionals but it's better than it was. I really hated it when they only had 48 teams and mid-majors didn't get an autobid. The SoCon winner still had to face a best 2 of 3 against another mid-major to make the field. I doubt Wofford even winning the SoCon this year could have turned around and won 2 out of 3 against a team like Virginia Commonwealth or similar.

Who cares if #1 Vandy was out...?
They weren't the real #1 team in the land. That team is still in...
And they are used to CWS dog piles...

If Vandy wanted the title it should start playing FBS baseball. That's where the votes count not the performance.

Rice's pitching doesn't bother me at all, but their offense is sporatic.

I think it's GREAT they way it is! It gives a lot of teams a better chance at advancing. Just because some of the seeds don't make it doesn't mean its a bad system...it just means that they weren't the best team in their regional in that weekend.
Playoffs have always been about which teams are hot at the season's end.
