Kats take a stroll in the grass

Grass field have almost become a thing of the past in college football. With the introduction of the new synthetic grass fields such as AstroPlay or FieldTurf, schools can put in a state-of-the-art surface for a fraction of the price the old artificial turf fields used to cost.

Because of that, playing on grass has become a rarity for Sam Houston State football. But this year, four the Bearkats' six games on the road are going to be played on a grass field. To help prepare the team for that, head coach Todd Whitten has decided to hold seven workouts at Holleman Field, the old home of the baseball team.

"We are going to play four times on grass so it is important for us to utilize this facility," Whitten said. "We are going to get out here most afternoons and workout on the grass, and the weeks we play on grass we will come out here and practice as well."
