Joey Chestnut has been one of the top challengers for some time...he was pretty much competing against himself at that event. There was no Kobayashi there...

Chestnut has got to perform on July 4th if he wants to put the "is he better than Kobayashi" talk to rest...

Hey, a record's a record, it's not like Kobayashi could have punched him in the stomach or something.

I think I will go to Nathans on the fourth to watch Kobayashi regain his record :)

Hey, a record's a record, it's not like Kobayashi could have punched him in the stomach or something.

Kobayashi is basically competing against himself...

If he knows the guy next to him is stuffing weiners in his mouth at a faster rate, he'll kick up his game a level...

Some records aren't meant to me broken, but it will be interesting to see how Kobayashi responds on July 4th.

Wow, that is a lot of food. If anything it shows that Kobayashi can be beaten.

Very true..... he paces himself he wont down 70 if he can win with 50 he does what he needs and he may race for the record in July as opposed to racing for the win.

Until he beats him head to head, Kobi is the champ, though he may not hold the record

it was a qualifying event. We didnt claim Michelle Wie the US Open winner when she won a men's qualifier.

We didn't claim the USA World Cup Champs when they won the CONCAF qualifier.

THis guy won a qualifying event thats it!

It would be like Will Nieves having a 57 game hitting streak in spring training.

I don't completely agree with you Travis

If a guy sets a world record at a qualifying event for the 100 meters, its still a record

The guy is now tyhe record holder, I'll give him that, but he is not the king until he beats Kobi head to head
