On a thread in FCS discussion, high school football was discussed. What state has the best high school football. It can be determined by individual talent, best teams, or style of play.

It's always so tough to judge which state has the best of anything when it comes to high school sports...
Do you judge it by who has the most players in the collegiate ranks of Division I in that sport or the professional sport (whether it be NFL, NBA or MLB)? Can you really do that considering you got several states that dwarf others in size?
Do you do it by national rankings in the sport? Or can you not do that because these teams really don't compete outside of maybe a basketball or baseball tournament (sometimes football games) here and there...

I said Pennsylvania...because I'm a homer I guess...
It is really tough to say...looking at those national rankings...it always seems their loaded with teams from California, Texas, and Florida...

I didn't vote because I really don't know. Some states get mentioned more than others, but some that aren't on the list play good football too.
I'm not sure I would put Alabama on the list though. Alabama turns out good players and has a few great programs, particularly Hoover, but I'm not sure the depth exists here as in other states like Texas, Florida, California, and many others.
All that being said, there are city park league teams here in Mobile that draw several thousand to their games.

It's a tough call I agree. I know with out any tangible evidence it's all opinion. But there are more and more games played between two teams from different states. Like this year Northwestern High in Miami is playing Southlake in Texas. I know it's only one game but it can kind of give you a handle on things especially with top teams from each state.
I remember Evangel in Shreveport, La. played De LaSalle in Cali, and it wasn't close. Evangel was one of the best teams in La that year.
Like most things it's just discussion (or opinion xconfusedx )

Based the talent mined from each state, I would say either Florida or Texas

California. Have you ever heard of De LaSalle High School in Concord, CA

I chose California from the quality of Pac-10 players on the rosters.
A side note, I would have placed Montana somewhere on the poll. Maybe not as the best (of course) but better than some listed (Alabama? Ohio?). I'd say Montana is probably the best undiscovered state in terms of HS football, better than Oregon and Washington.

there are only a few states: Texas, Montana(wyoming in same league as montana teams) that play 6 man football. Seeing that MT isn't on there i go with Texas. I don't care though. Montana is just badass, though i don't think our allstar team could beat Florida's or Texas's

I voted for Texas, where I spent my HS years. I lived the "Friday Night Lights" experience!xthumbsupx

I voted for Texas since the state is basically known for its passion for high school football and draws the biggest crowds. We had a thread on here not too long ago (I think I even started it) on a high school football team in Texas that not only sells season tickets but also has seat-licensing fees on top of it; that's big.
I was tempted to vote "other" since I saw some very good high school football when I was in Oklahoma.

Literally? Did you play for the Permian Panthers? I remember reading that book and there was a kid who played for that team and went to Harvard. Just curious.

That was a good book. Football on a friday night to me is good every where, but living in Florida for the last 3 years has been great.

No, I didn't play the game. I went to a large public HS in Houston, but I went to as many games as I could. The Texas girls were incredible!xnodx

The winningest high school football team in the country is in Georgia, Valdosta High School. 829 All-Time Wins - which is a National High School Federation record (829-183-34, 80.8% Winning Percentage) along with 23 State Championships and 6 National Championships.

I am sure they were. Interesting point about that kid who played for Permian (now that I know it's not you) he only played at Harvard for one year. He stayed at Harvard and graduated but going from Texas high school football to Ivy League football (or any FCS football in the northeast) was too much of a culture shock for him and he lost interest.
We had a QB from Texas high school football a few years ago and he felt the same way; he ended up transferring. If Friday Night Lights (the book) is any indication of high school football in Texas then it is easy to see how these kids come crashing down after playing in that state.

The coach at Armwood High in Seffner, Fl was a candidate for the job at Valdosta.

I voted for PA, although Texas and Florida probably are more fanatical.
I'll take All the Right Moves over Friday Night Lights anyday!
