While a group of fans clamored for the move to FBS...

The institution and sensible people worldwide realized the best move was for them to stay in FCS and wait atleast a year before making such a decision....

UTSA needs to get football off paper and onto the field before they think that...

If UTSA gets FBS first, there'll be loads of disappointed Bobcat fans...

Keep in mind, TXST has been Div I for years...despite their attempts to move there by June 1st!

Everyone knew that it was not going to happen (this year).

Yes Mr C., the writer that did this story doesn't know anything about the NCAA

I dont really see why UTSA is such a big deal personally. Other than the San Antonio market, what do they really bring to the table?

Not the writer...the writer was calling the group by their name. It was the fans of the institution who created this group to spearhead the operation...

Local business leaders, former student body leaders (who have a history of ignoring their own administration and the like...

UTSA would be a big deal because if they got FBS, it would really squeeze Texas State - San Marcos, who would be right between two FBS programs in University of Texas and UTSA...would really hurt their outside funding and the willingness of companies in the Austin/San Antonio area to support them...

Posted this in response to a Bobcat fan (must not be one of the sensible ones mentioned in another post on this thread) attacking the administration for not being in tune with the students and alumni...

"They" also have a better idea of what needs to happen, the immediate impact and the long term impact if they anything by June 1st. It just wasn't possible. As one of your BobcatFans said on another board, the "sensible" people affiliated with TXST knew it was not going to happen this year. Next year perhaps, but not in the question for 2007.

If your institution filed the documents by June 1st, I'm sure instant comparisons to Florida A&M would've been made nationwide. That would've been disastrous and if the same situation played out, it would set your institution further back than it is now.

The administration is not blind. They are not stupid, they are not any of the derogatory words that you folks continually throw at them. They know what's going on and they are not going to make a multi-million dollar move just to make it. Better safe than sorry. Make sure all the ducks are in a row before you make a multi-million dollar mistake that your institution could potentially never recover from...

Just my thoughts...great job TXST administration. You guys did your part in properly informing people weeks ago that you were not going to make the move and you are all doing your part to make sure all your ducks are in a row. I don't want to see you folks go as I love the rivalry, but if your going to go, you might as well do it the right way instead of jeopardizing everything...

my thoughts exactly. im so tired of some posters on bobcatfans saying our AD is a joke for not signing the papers to mov up. they have no idea what they are talking about. even the "plan" put together by d1june1.com was a joke. yes it was a start in the right direction but it was very flawed which has been pointed out on this board.

as for saying we are already D1, big deal. i mean i know its the correct term but the fact is that the majority of people dont understand that there are D1 subdivisions.

that is a big deal. but still ive talked to many people from san antonio and utsa is a joke to them. i dont see much support for the team if they create one. i see much more support here for texas st. which still isnt a lot thanks to UT.

An article from the San Marcos Daily Record on the lack of action by the athletic department as far as making any decisions or saying anything as it relates to the June 1st deadline...

Robert Doerr, one of the individuals mentioned in the article, has been involved in other subordination-like behavior in his times affiliated with the university. He received preferential treatment from one, Manny Mataskis, among questionable activities...

June 1st deadline passes, not surprisingly, without action

San Marcos — In a move that surprised only a select few, Texas State didn’t file any paperwork with the NCAA to announce the school’s move to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in time for the June 1 deadline mandated by the NCAA to begin the transition in the 2007 school year.

In fact, it probably would’ve been more surprising if the school had filed paperwork. Much more surprising.

The reason the lack of a decision surprised few is that back in late April, University President Denise Trauth made it clear that the paperwork wouldn’t be filed by the deadline. In a press release announcing that the University’s Athletic Task Force would explore a move to the FBS, Trauth stated that the time frame was too short.

Which would you guys consider to be the bigger market: San Antonio or Dallas/Ft. Worth?

TCU has had an absolutely outstanding football team over the past eight or nine years and STILL struggles to draw more than 25-30 thousand people to games.

It seems like most of the state has to compete with the likes of UT, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech for fans. Sprinkle in other solid FBS programs such as Houston, UTEP, and TCU, and it probably makes it tough for any new or revamped college programs to get a true fanbase going.

Here's a question that maybe some Texas people can answer: How many Div. I football programs (FBS and FCS, combined) are there in the state of Texas?

TCU has had an absolutely outstanding football team over the past eight or nine years and STILL struggles to draw more than 25-30 thousand people to games.

In the DFW area, they compete solely with SMU (Dallas). UT-Arlington used to have football, but that went under in the 1980s.

Here's a question that maybe some Texas people can answer: How many Div. I football programs (FBS and FCS, combined) are there in the state of Texas?

FCS (SLC): SHSU, SFA, TXST
FCS (SWAC): PVA&M, TxSO
FBS (Big XII): Tech, Baylor, Texas, A&M
FBS (C-USA): UH, UTEP, Rice, SMU
FBS (MWC): TCU
FBS (Sun Belt): UNT

FCS: 5
FBS: 10

Total Div I (w/FB): 15

Div I without FB: A&MCC, UT-Arlington, UTSA, Lamar, UT-Pan American

I would love to see someone add up the combined budgets of all Div. 1 football programs in Texas. Or how many Texans attend Div. 1 football games every Saturday during the season?
