Since we're bringing other HR records up, no one will ever break Josh Gibson's HR record of 962.

I hope Bonds is setting on 755 when they hit Atlanta in August.
Wonder if ole boy will be to old to travel to the stadium to see his record fall then. xlolx

Anyway..................Ain't no player in MLB worring about the record in Japan.

I just wrote up an ebay listing for the SI that had Oh on the cover while chasing Aaron's record. It wasn't a big deal then either, compared to Bonds chase of Aaron.

With future medical break-throughs, a 60 year old power hitter in 2075 may come close. ;)

I think his single season record was 80.

Aaron has already said that he won't attend, regardless.

Then he need to SAY IT instead of dancing around it talking about he to old to be rushing to catch planes and shat.

He don't wanna come, the world won't end without him there. xlolx

Aaron already DID say it. He said he will be golfing with his wife instead. Good for Hank!!! A noble decision by a classy guy.

I find it troubling that Aaron would make that decision when Bonds has never failed a drug test. In this country, one is innocent until proven guilty. xtwocentsx

Ford Frick* wasn't there for Maris. He attended some games along with Mrs Ruth, and neither was happy to see the record go to Roger. Mrs Ruth was a fan of Hank Aaron's and attended several of his games, and was happy that Hank broke the record.

I agree with and support Aaron's decision. His attendance doesn't really add much more than a camera shot for TV anyway.

As for the golfing comment, it might be hard to follow through if Bonds is on 754 and has a string of night games scheduled. Maybe they have lit golf courses in Atlanta.

Personally, I'd like to see Bonds intentionally walked every at-bat for the rest of the season. Let that be a tip-of-the-cap by today's pitchers to Hank Aaron. If that happened, the frustration on Bonds' face would be worth the price of admission.

Were I a major league pitcher, he wouldn't hit the "record breaker" off of me unless he jumped over the plate and ran halfway down the third base line. He wouldn't get anything to hit from me.

Bingo- Bonds may be a heck of a physical specimen, however he got that way, but Aaron has more class in his left nostril than Barry Bonds has now, or has ever had.

Character is worth more than an extra shot or two over the fence, and Bonds will never catch up to Aaron on that count.

Or you might consider planting one in his lower back.

I guess the failed test for uppers last season doesn't count for anything. You have to be an ostrich to keep believing that Barry is clean. Read Game of Shadows openly and honestly and you can't have any doubt but that Bonds is a drug user.

And can we get an understanding that Innocent Until Proven Gulity refers to legal proceedings. There has been PLENTY of evidence presented to a Grand Jury that Bonds has used illegal drugs. There has been evidence that Bonds perjured himself. Whether he is ever tried on these charges has to do with many other factors. Not every criminal ever is tried on charges. There are A LOT of people we know are guilty who have never been charged or tried of their crimes. Not every jury gets verdicts correct either. You have to have absolutely NO understanding of DNA evidence to acquit O.J. Simpson of murder. You had to have NO clue to have acquited Stacy Koon and company of beating Rodney King. In both of those cases, a criminal court found them innocent, civil courts found them culpable. Richard Nixon told us he was not a crook. He was never tried. Do you still think he is innocent?

For those who haven't studied the career of Sadaharu Oh, you should know he was a great player, who excelled in his numerous games against Major League competition. Numerous statistical studies by people who belong to SABR (The Society for the Advancement of Baseball Research, of which I am a member) show that Oh would have likely had a Hall of Fame-type career in MLB, if he had been given the opportunity to play here. Japanese League players were pretty much prohibited from the time of Masanori Murakami in the mid-60s until Hideo Nomo some 30 years later. If you talk to Major Leaguers who faced Oh, they will tell you that Oh would have been a big star here. Not saying he would have hit more HRs than Aaron or Ruth, but he would have hit his share. He was a great, great player.

Has that organization done any studies on Josh Gibson?

There has been a lot of recent research on the great Josh Gibson and many other Negro League stars. I haven't seen the results yet, but I know there were a couple of recent books that were being done that were going to give us more statistical information on the Negro League stars than we had ever had before.

Toss one at his head, it's a big enough target! (Literally and figuratively)
