So far McNeese signed a player. ;)

Update: McNeese signed another player.

Another update: Up to four players signed now.

Latest exciting update: Still holding at four players signed. ;)

Latest breaking news!!!: We are up to five signees now!! Yeeehawww!! ;)

I know you guys have been holding your breath for another update: Word is we have six now!!

Latest, greatest update: Make it seven. We are on a roll now!! ;)

Well, last update for me, I got to work (some other McNeese fan needs to take over): It is either 10 or 11 unofficially because one name is being disputed as signed or not.

As a TWoods grad, that shouldn't be an issue. xconfusedx

Still somewhat shocked that he signed w/ SFA. Spoke w/ him here and there last fall and the school in "wacko" was the only one he consistently spoke of. I'm in disbelief. :(

Well, McNeese had me confused because they were throwing the early signing class in with the new ones today. We signed only 12 players total in both signing periods if I am reading the below article right. So, it looks like Coach Frank Wilson will have a ton of scholarships left over from transfers. Look out transfer portal!!!!

I guess this is what you get when your coach was hired 3 weeks before signing date and still doesn't have his coaching staff completed. At least the 8 early signees stuck with us and we haven't had very many of the present players go in the transfer portal.

It's going to get interesting as we reboot the whole football program. And, now we are searching for a new Athletic Director.

Old Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times!!

Wright's off the field behavior or grades must be absolutely terrible because that's the only way he ended up at SFA. There is no chance that he willingly chose SFA over those schools.

We were all asking the same thing on the Sawmill, and our insider responded...

"Coach McFarland worked his ass off... Kids wanna play immediately now a days.. and Wright felt this was a place he could come in and compete for a starting job off the get go..NFL scouts are still gonna find him and our coaching staff is very well respected in the NFL circles.. We got a beautiful campus, absolutely the best night life on a Wed, Thurs, or Friday night... He is now a big fish in a small pond"

Take that for what it's worth.

Wright responded about SFA...

“I had a great time down there. It was a humbling experience,” “It’s just like any other D-I, I felt comfortable and made my choice."

Wright said knowing he was going to a school where he had a “great history with the coaching staff” made walking down the red carpet Wednesday that much more significant.

Wright also had Grambling State in his final 11 schools, so he was considering a smaller school from the get go.

At this point who cares, he signed and is now a Lumberjack.

Last year it was DT: Carl Williams who had numerous FBS offers and now Wright.

Will have to see how it pans out, but the SFA d-line with all that is coming back, plus Nichols and Cox back on the team should be scary good.

Wright's off the field behavior or grades must be absolutely terrible because that's the only way he ended up at SFA. There is no chance that he willingly chose SFA over those schools.

There is another explanation. The big schools on that list make hundreds of “offers” but most aren’t commitable. That is, the school wouldn’t accept a commitment from the player until national signing day and then only if that program’s top picks wind up going elsewhere. It’s a way of saying we are interested in you if our top choices at your position don’t agree to come here.

For example, Georgia offered 34 defensive tackles this year and signed three. My guess is Wright didn’t turn down UGA or Clemson or Alabama. He never had the opportunity to sign with them. He’s no doubt a good player or those schools wouldn’t have had him on their list but it’s not likely he turned down Bama for SFA.

It was suggested earlier that he must have had grade problems if he chose SFA over Bama. I’m just pointing out that the way the recruiting game is played these days it’s more likely that Bama didn’t have a scholarship for him on signing day because they signed guys higher on their board and didn’t need his services or those of the 25 plus other DT’s they offered that were part of their back up plan.

It is true that he will likely play right away at SFA. In fact your group of DT signees will likely play right away and terrorize SLC o lines for years to come.

That, with the late start we had, we just stuck with some quality recruits (of course, that will be determined later by their careers) and just four of them, and the coaching staff didn't panic and quickly use up all the open scholarships on players that would have been marginal. We will have a dozen or so scholarships to play with. I know we are still trying to get a kicker and we will probably be trying to address some needs with the transfer portal.

Sucks when you have a late start in recruiting and it has happened two years in a row for us.

A late start isn't always a bad thing. There are good football players still out there who may not have the measurables but will help you win games. Frank knows where to find them. And I'm plenty sure he'll know how to work the portal.

Companies advertise their product with a 10-year life span but reality says they need replacing every seven or eight years. Our field was installed in 2012 and had one year of use on it already when it was in the Superdome in 2010. So counting one year with the Saints/Tulane/HS football, there have been nine seasons played on it and it should have been replaced two or three years ago. We're finally getting a new surface right after spring practice.

ACU is the new TransferU! I don't have a problem with it personally. The large majority of fcs team must use transfers to fill immediate holes in the roster. Keeler has said that he really only likes to take in transfers if they can contribute immediately. He doesn't believe in transfers for depth. That should be HS recruits that can be developed into starters.

They are not on the roster yet, but when you add them to the quarterback room we will have SEVEN quarterbacks on the team. Six will have to be active because we can't redshirt the JC transfer. I'm positive we will redshirt the other incoming freshman. I'm guessing a couple might transfer to D II in order to have a chance to play.
