Could this guy be any more of a jerk? He must really hate himself deep down in his soul to be this narcissitic and selfish...

NEW YORK -- As Barry Bonds nears his record 756th home run, he's stockpiling quite a collection of souvenirs -- bats, balls, helmets and spikes, pieces of baseball history perfectly suited for the Hall of Fame.

Whether he'll donate any of them to Cooperstown, however, is in doubt.

"I'm not worried about the Hall," the San Francisco slugger said during a recent homer drought. "I take care of me."

I think that they said on SportsCenter yesterday that today was a "rest day" for him. The man is 43 years old and needs a rest day every 4 games. It's not like he even hussles in the field anymore, just lollygags it until it's time for him to bat again.

I hope that Selig has the crotch to not attend the game where he breaks the record. I know that Aaron has pretty much shunned the event, although he says that he just doesn't care about it on the whole - that it isn't just a Bonds issue.

Wednesday night's game is on ESPN as well. If he's avoiding playing on national TV, maybe Selig can arrange for the remainder of the Giants games to be on ESPN. xthumbsupx

Devil's Advocate for just a moment...

Why should he give his stuff to the Hall? Baseball has all but thrown him out of the game over steroids, even though it A) was looking the other way when he really started his tear through the record books and B) has a long list of other stars who have either been caught, or already all but convicted in the public eye. The message from MLB is that they don't want him or his stuff, so I'd say why should he give it to them.

The only thing wrong with the above is that The Baseball Hall of Fame and Major League Baseball are two entirely separate entities - the Hall of Fame runs themselves and isn't funded or run by MLB. I agree, Bonds and MLB have a healthy distaste for one another and I wouldn't be shocked for Bonds to snub MLB just like they have done of him, but now he's snubbing people that haven't done anything to him. The HOF is basicall collateral damage. That's where Bonds does himself a disservice often - he just assumes everyone is against him so he thinks little of snubbing everyone. It's almost a self-fulfilling way of acting.

Ali was hated quite a bit in this country. It has only been in recent years that Ali has been adopted as a hero here, primarily because of the Parkinson's.

I still like Barry because of all the reasons he has been villified.

Ali was hated by few, and loved by many, at least in my neck of the woods in North Dakota. If they hated Ali, they loved Joe Frazier.

He was certainly hated, but he also had quite a large amount of supporters too - I'd say it was almost split even between those who supported him and those who hated him. Obviously people's views of him have softened with age, but plenty of people liked him before. That's why comparing him with Bonds, even loosely, is a bit of a reach. A lot of people hate Bonds, even more people don't care one way or the other about Bonds, and a small group of people like him. With Ali, people certainly cared one way or the other.

I wasn't comparing Bonds to Ali. I said "Barry Bumaye!" because I LIKE Barry and I want him to kill as many of those pitches as he can. SO again, "Barry Bumaye!"

I just feel that if Bond's truly cared about the game, like he constantly spews during interviews, that he would want others to share in the celebration of breaking one of the most hallowed records in baseball (and all of sports, for that matter). It seems to me that he is being a little snooty. Of course, as you say, the media has pretty much layed into him over the past few years, but pretty much every single person who has ever dealt with the man says he is a jerk and treats the media like crap. The ole' slippery slope, I guess.

If people think he's a jerk. then breaking a home run record is not going to change that. When should he try to accomodate people who have already had a negative opinion of him?

Andro was not against baseball's rules at the time and is STILL legal in all 50 states.

Barry never used andro, that was McGwire.

But it's actions like these that help people form that opinion. It just reinforces the thought that the guy is selfish. Him sharing isn't going to change my opinion of him in the least, but not sharing makes him out to be even more of a bad guy.

I understand your point. But sharing that stuff with the hall of fame shouldn't make or break someone's opinion of him. If someone thinks he's selfish then most of them will still feel the same way even if he gives the stuff to the hall of fame. Kind of like when you know someone is doing charity work just for the show. I just xlolx at the whole thing.

I know... I was just goofing, trying to be funny.

I actually used andro for a couple of seasons in the mid 90's. It helped in recovery from tournaments/travel and I felt pretty energetic and lean while I did it. It also made acne break out on my back and I was hornier than a two peckered billy goat all the time- and no my unit didn't shrink. LOL

Barry Bonds is an ass, a cheater, and a bad influence on baseball. He doens't care about anyone but himself, and it shows. He has no concept of being a team player (which shows in his pathetic play when he isn't batting). I thought he was a jerk even before the steroids issue was brought up.

Gil Dobie

Bonds was a Hall of Famer prior to the Home Run craze, suspected to be balco aided. Whether his memorabilia is in the Hall of Fame is really not important. Major League Baseball does not run the Hall of Fame, it's run by private interest, and MLB does work with them on promotions and memorabilia acquisitions.

I did andro while in my powerlifting phase in the mid 90's. It did nothing for or to me, so I stopped it. I read research on it later that showed it was useless because it turned into estrogen in a males body, therefore maybe having a detrimental effect on strength.

Ty Cobb was a humanitarian, I've seen his hospital xeyebrowx

Also an A-hole, like many of his time a racist.

I think the biggest Racist, Cap Anson and Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis should also have asterisks by their names. Anson for helping expell Moses Fleetwood Walker, the first black Major Leaguer. Landis for supporting the segregation of baseball.
