SEC to announce 10-game, conference-only schedule plan, possibly as early as today.

Looks like UCA will lose some cash not playing Missouri. :(

Depends on the contract. You can’t claim act of God and then play 10 games.

I have read the news from the SEC. I am disappointed for our student-athletes that they will not be playing at Mizzou. We intend to work on a replacement for that game and to play a full schedule. As everything is fluid, we will continue to update Bear Nation

We got Auburn to replace Alabama A&M but that's gone now.

Looking for a Big 12 team now, most likely TCU.

Wouldn't it be awful if that is accomplished only to have the Big 12 to go to a conference only schedule.
Look on the bright side. You could be BYU which has had SIX of its games cancelled.

Any more news from SLC teams? xeyebrowx

Nothing new on the UCA front. Players ready to practice. Coaches ready to coach. Fans ready for some football.

The first game against Austin Peay will look so sloppy. No formal practices. No hitting. WRs and QBs not getting the timing down. Defense not getting in any stops. Ugh. I'm not sure team chemistry will happen for many teams this season...if we have one!

Our team has been on campus since July 5, going through the voluntary workouts phase, progressing into the organized team activities over the last week or so. Barring a Tulane cancellation or postponement, we'll kick off the official start of fall camp on Wednesday, August 5. Obviously safety is paramount for all but it would be disappointing to have any or all of the 2020 season altered or canceled. Expectations are extremely high for this football team.

I think most of the SLC teams have done similar since then. But full practices are what every team needs. I hope our game with Austin Peay still happens on the 29th on ESPN...but who knows at this point...xeyebrowx

Now for the bad news:

"MCNEESE FOOTBALL TO DELAY START OF FALL CAMPLAKE CHARLES – McNeese Football will delay the start of fall camp, head football coach Frank Wilson announced on Thursday.
The Cowboys were originally scheduled to begin camp on Friday morning at 9 a.m. for the first of two, split squad practices, with the other beginning at 3:45.
“On Wednesday, the NCAA released new guidelines for all of its schools in Divisions I, II and III. McNeese is in the process of implementing plans to meet all of these new guidelines,” said Interim Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer.
No date has been set for the start of camp at this time."

Just checked out the FCS Kickoff game seating for the UCA v. Austin Peay game.

Social distancing to the MAX!

Due to State, County and City guidelines, the Guardian FCS Kickoff Classic will observe "6-foot social distancing" in all areas of Cramton Bowl.
In the grandstand seating area, this means every third row will be available to purchase and the available seat blocks within those rows will have 4 empty seats on either side (exception, 2 seats from end of row).

xeekx

I get it. But man the camera shots will be empty. That's IF we can get fans to travel 6 hours with all the covid madness. I'll be there!

It's leaning that way but not necessarily. We don't have the same travel issues the MVFC, Big Sky or CAA have. That said, money for adequate testing will be a hurdle for everyone, especially for those with no FBS game or games. But if you have the financial capability and will to play, you can find a way.

Yeah Hendrix is a little Harvard type private school. Very nice and high dollar. No wonder you ate at the patio cafe. Try Stobys on Donaghey down the road from UCA. Long time community restaurant that was rebuilt after a fire. Try the cheese dip and the Stoby sandwich on pita bread. Good stuff. Honestly though Conway has like 200 restaurants. Take your pick.

SFA Football Dons Pads in Third Practice of Preseason Camp

While the CFB world hangs precariously in the balance, the mood among the Lumberjacks is a strong and unwavering desire to play this fall.
The sights and sounds of football in Nacogdoches are a welcome distraction for the players, coaches, staff and fans of Stephen F. Austin. Following practice, Coach Caid (https://sfajacks.com/staff.aspx?staff=332)Faske (https://sfajacks.com/staff.aspx?staff=332) was able to articulate some of the focus of the Lumberjacks in these uncertain times and how they have kept their players focused and driven towards the goal of playing this fall.

Not sure how this will affect football: If it's giving it a chance to play or surrendered to the inevitability that it won't but an email to students yesterday stated that there will be no TRADITIONAL courses (meet in person Monday, Wed. Friday) but it is now changed to HYBRID (meet monday and then meet online Wed and Friday) OR online only. I guess that means less students on campus all at one time but they still get to come on a limited basis.

Not that there was that much seating at the Guardian Kickoff classic anyway but this will cement removing the students from the hype of playing football altogether.
I think Austin Peay has sold all their tickets while UCA has a few left. xlolx

That's about the same with McNeese. Wilson was hired in December. A spring schedule was set up and then cancelled due to Covid. McNeese did get in a couple of walk-throughs in, maybe a couple of practices this month before the delay.
I may be wrong, Puddin Tane can correct me, but I think Lamar was also scheduled to start the season one week later (and thus begin practice later) even before all of the delays due to Covid began.
So, Bear, time will tell. The Cards may need to find a new coach in time, but this can't be put on his shoulders.

we weren’t expecting much this year. Schultz left things pretty bare and this is Morgans first HC job. Morgan wants to build off freshman recruits (i agree with that), Schultz was juco heavy.

We were supposed to start 9-3 with Ms College. They cancelled. First practice was to be Aug 6th, i believe.

This is crazy. Rumors are the Southland Conference season will be cancelled/postponed until the spring but the teams can play nonconference games if they want. And then McNeese announces last night that they are starting up practices again today. Are they going to practice three weeks for a game against ULL???? Or they going to try to schedule more nonconference games??? Or, since they have had no real practices since Coach Wilson was hired, are they just trying to get some actual practices in even though they eventually will not have any games?????

McNEESE ELECTS TO SUSPEND FALL INTERCOLLEGIATE COMPETITION

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State University has elected to suspend all intercollegiate sports competition for the fall semester with an intent to play in the spring, Interim Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer announced on Thursday.

This follows an announcement made Thursday morning by the Southland Conference Board of Directors to suspend all league-only competition for its schools in the sports of football, volleyball, women’s soccer and cross country with an intent to play conference competition in the spring semester and compete for championships.

Other Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) conferences that have altered or suspended their fall competition season includes the Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern Athletic, Missouri Valley Football League, Northeast, Patriot, Pioneer Football League and the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The vote by the Southland Conference gave member institutions the option of participating in limited non-conference competition in the fall, but McNeese is among the majority of league institutions in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas that are expected to postpone all intercollegiate contests this fall.

“After consulting with (McNeese President) Dr. (Daryl) Burckel and numerous medical professionals, we feel like this is the right decision,” said Interim Director of Athletics Heath Schroyer. “We are student-athlete centered and the health and safety of all of our student-athletes is first and foremost.”

Though teams will not participate in outside competition, student-athletes will remain engaged in team activities in preparation of the spring season.

“This decision impacts many people including our fans, alumni, marching band, dance team and cheerleaders, but it is the right decision. This an unprecedented time but I couldn’t be more excited about our future,” said Schroyer.

Southland Conference athletic directors are beginning discussions for a return to competition in the spring.

The McNeese Ticket Office is working on information regarding season tickets and will release the details as they become available.

SMU is the toughest of the three teams you have announced so far. A W there would be surprising, for sure. Beating UTSA would be an upset but not a major one. For the UTEP game a W wouldn’t be a surprise at all.

Their only win last season was a 36-34 victory over HBU so it is doable.

They lost their starting QB, RB, and their top defensive player. They gave up over 5,100 yards of offense last season 220 per game passing and 202 rushing. Their defense only had 13 sacks all season.

They return a QB with only 2 games of experience and a redshirt freshman.

I expect SFA to win this game.

The projected track is showing the eye making landfall on the LA side of the LA/TX border. That would put Houston out of reach of the worst of it. But anything around Beaumont, Orange, and Port Arthur could get hammered. It all depends on when it makes its projected north turn. The later that happens, the worse for Texas.

I think a lot of our fans would be up for it. We have a large alumni base in the DFW area and they always like when games are scheduled there. Well we don't know if they were even ones that got any playing time anyway. They might have been on the travel squad but never got into the game or might not get into any games this year. Who knows since we aren't allowed to know who they are because of federally protected information. Also just because players can't practice with the teams doesn't mean they can't do things to keep in step with what's going on with the program. It's not like they are forced to sit in their dorm rooms playing video games and attending classes online. I'm betting being asymptomatic they still have the lung capacity to weight lift...xlolx

I have no idea who they are or if they're contributors or not, just going off your initial post. If a player tests positive—symptomatic or not— they're supposed to quarantine from the rest of the team and should not be allowed to practice. I don't know many coaches who would play a kid in a game if they missed the previous two weeks of physical reps. Especially this early in the season.

It also gives us 10 games. Nice! This is our first dII in a while that I can recall. But it is a weird year.

You know who the head coach of Missouri Western is don't you?

Took over in 2017

2020: Only going to play one game so far, UCA (He has the UCA connection)
2019: 9-3
2018: 7-5
2017: 4-7

Yeah. Family friend. His kid and mine played baseball together while he was coaching in Conway. Great guy. I'm guessing Coach Brown and him had a good conversation to make it happen. Matt will bring a challenge.

Their stadium was upgraded to 10,000 seats. Nice university too. Would fit in nicely in the FCS.

Plus they have an indoor practice facility

Article/Video about a former and current McNeese Cowboy. Current QB Cody Orgeron (son of LSU head coach) thanks the Louisiana and Southland schools for the supplies they have graciously given to the Lake Charles and SW Louisiana community: https://www.kadn.com/content/news/Former-McNeese-Teammates-Share-Common-Bond-After-Hurricane-Laura-572519631.html

This is McNeese's release about its spring football season. With damage to McNeese/Lake Charles and McNeese facilities, much is up in the air. Will there be night games? Will fans be allowed and if so how many? Etc. https://mcneesesports.com/news/2020/9/22/cowboys-to-play-6-football-games-beginning-feb-27.aspx

It is so frustrating trying to plan ANYTHING these days. I had planned on being in Huntsville next month to see the Cowboys/Bearkats clash in football and in soccer the day before. Neither will be possible. I hope to be in Hunstsville now in April (how strange that sounds for football!), but at this point I don't know what the guidelines for fans and how many will be allowed to attend at SHSU for the game. McNeese's new H&HP basketball/volleyball venue was severely damaged, and so I do not know what this means for the basketball and volleyball teams. I hope they will not have to be road warriors for the entire season. I had read that LSU has been helping the men's basketball team to find places to practice in the Baton Rouge area and even at LSU on occasion. I am not the biggest LSU fan, but LSU has just been a Godsend to the McNeese community throughout all of this disaster.

A friend posted on Zem's blog that McNeese President Burckel told reporters that McNeese has added Tarleton State and will open the season with them (I believe it is a road game for the Pokes) before facing UIW.

Thanks again to everyone who has opened their hearts to McNeese/Lake Charles! Geaux Pokes!

Unbelievable. Incredible. Devastating. Godspeed to all of you in Lake Charles. Hope you can get back so some sense of normalcy soon.

Hopefully more individual and institutional cooperative efforts like this will continue. It's good to see fellow UL schools step up and help alongside UCA. You guys will be back for sure!

Our old HC is having to take the reigns in FSU's uphill battle against Miami tonight. God speed to them. Below was an interesting article on him that surprisingly gave a lot of his history at ACU. I thought the article left out too much of his successes in the FBS world since then, but still an interesting read. Chris had to take the reigns when Tuberville quit Tech right before the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2012. Tonight's challenge will be tougher.

He was airlifted from the site of the crash, according to what I've read. Apparently he's not in great shape... hoping for the best!
