Wow, Nick Hill at SIU not even in the top 15. A little surprising.

I think they only had 15 coaches on the ballot. Every conference was represented and then the NEC and CAA had two. The NEC had co-coaches of the year and the extra CAA coach was JMU's Curt Cignetti. Probably just a matter of not any room left for Hill if they want to have an option from every conference yet limit it to 15 names.

Does every conference have to be represented??

I think the voting on this is pretty acceptable. You can make arguments for most of those top guys and the voting results seem to support that. Nobody was really a runaway favorite here.

I'd guess that's what Craig Haley and STATS do to be diplomatic about the finalists at least. They probably figure that if a coach doesn't get voted as his conference's coach of the year he's not going to get voted as the national coach of the year. They could easily add more names to the ballot and still be diplomatic but it's their award so they decide how many names should or shouldn't be on the ballot I guess.

I sort of expected Entz to maybe finish a little lower on the board.

I know playoffs aren't considered, but it is odd to have this come out right after Austin Pray dismantled Sac St. Both coaches in the top 3 is good to see though. Also, I was glad to see Entz get some love despite everyone thinking NDSU is a machine.

That explains the Holy Cross coach making the list. Went from T-2nd in 2018 at 4-2/5-6 to 5-1/7-6 in a TERRIBLE Patriot League in 2019. 2-5 OOC (yes, 2 FBS). If the Pards didn't give Georgetown their only conference win, HC doesn't even win the autobid and the league's only playoff participant would have had a losing record.

NDSU is a machine but they have a very young team so what Entz accomplished in his first year is impressive and worthy of recognition.

I think Taylor deserves it most. He has brought a program into the upper eschelon of FCS football that for years was mediocre. Likewise, A-P's Hudspeth has taken a longtime unranked program into recognition. Well done!

I have no complaints about the list. I would like to point out that what Bernard Clark has done with the dumpster fire he inherited at Robert Morris and what Buddy Pough has done more or less without an actual working budget are worthy of consideration for the top spot as well. I think there should almost be a separate award for "Coach That Pulled Largest Rabbit Out of Smallest Hat".

This. Add that top assistants also left for FBS.

As much as I like what Entz was able to do his first year, Taylor was the right choice turning Sac. State into a top 4 seed.
