BATON ROUGE, La. -- A group of animal advocates is urging LSU not to replace its recently-departed mascot with another live tiger but school officials appear unlikely to accept that idea.
"Big cats in captivity are denied everything that is natural and important to them, such as the opportunity to run, climb, hunt, establish their territory, and choose their mates," Lisa Wathne, of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, says in a letter to school officials.
"The LSU mascot is part of the LSU community, part of the LSU family; a tradition for 71 years," said Dr. David Baker of the LSU Veterinary School, who cared for Mike and was visibly shaken last week by the tiger's death from kidney failure. "And we intend to obtain another tiger."

I'm not sure you can really say that they're All Over LSU...they just sent a letter asking the school not to replace the mascot.
813Jag, did Southern ever replace Lacumba?

I don't think they did. I haven't been on campus in a while. Mike the Tiger's habitat was better than most folks homes. xlolx

I think that tiger lived a pretty good life.
Another example of PETA showing how little they know about anything.
I remember them trying to rename Rodeo, Ca (pronounced Ro-day-o, like the street in LALA land) because they that it promoted harm to animals. Idiots.

I am sad to hear of Mike the Tiger's death. One of the highlights of my trip to LSU in 1995 for the App State game was seeing Mike leaving his habitat and going to the stadium for the game. It is true that he had better digs than a lot of people. He was a pampered and well-cared for cat and seemed to be perfectly happy with his role as a mascot.

As a kid growing up, even though I didn't like the Tigers, it was always a blast to visit Mike the Tiger. And the stories of LSU leaving Mike's cage loosely locked outside of the visitor locker room...hilarious xlolx xlolx

They'll get a tiger cub soon to reign as Mike VI. Make no mistake about it...that animal had the BEST mascot facility in the country after the new habitat was constructed. He probably had it better than most Tigers in zoos.
If you don't know what we're talking about when we mention the Tiger's habitat, check out MIKE THE TIGER (http://www.mikethetiger.com).
You can click on the Tiger Cam on the left for an overhead view of the habitat.

The #1 thing PETA SHOULD NOT DO:
Show up on the LSU Campus planning to protest on a Saturday night or any other time for that matter.
All they would be is a living target for beer bottles and crawfish shells. xlolx
It's he!! just to be the visiting team in that place. xlolx
