View Full Version : Do Yankee fans Have to Feel Bad for Other Baseball Fans?

After all, the Yankees have by far the greatest tradition in American sports and have won 26 world titles.
Nonetheless, on those rare ocassions her and there when the Yankees have a rough patch, fans of other teams (demonstrating their overt jealousy, I'd guess) exult and taunt us.
When the Red Sox utterly collapsed last year, did any Yankee fan here start a thread taunting Sox fans?
When Aaron Boone knocked the Sox out of the 2003 ALCS, did any Yankee fan start a thread taunting Sox fans?
When the Braves totally collapsed in 2006, did any Yankee fan start a thread taunting Braves' fans?
When the Yankees pummel the Mets in the Subway Series (as they have done almost every year since 1997), do we taunt Mets fans?
And yet every time the Yankees are down, we get mocked and taunted by other fans.
Yankee fans accept their good fortune with gratitude and accept their rough periods with grace. Indeed, when the Sox won the WS in 2004, a number of Yankee fans posted here at AGS (including me) that they were happy that some loyal and long-suffering Sox fans were finally rewarded for their loyalty.
You guys have some carictiture in your head about Yankee fans. Perhaps we should simply feel bad when a team's lack of historical success causes their fans to lash out at the Yankees when the Yankees are down.

That was the 20th century. Get back to us when you win a title THIS century.

Beat your team in the standings for each of the past 12 seasons and won 10 straight AL East titles.:p

Nearly all Yankee fans (not every single one of them, but most) with whom I come in contact don't pile on when my team (the Braves) lose or have a bad year, but I do have to hear about all the stupid championships and World Series appearances that they have. Piling on about losing isn't always the biggest way to be a farthead. Sometimes, constantly bringing up past accomplishments says more than railing on my team (or anyone else's). For those of us lucky enough to live in North Carolina, this is the same thing that we have to hear from Tarheel fans. It gets pretty darn old.

JJ,
The answer to every single one of your questions is "yes", except maybe the Braves one. You may not, but you might also be the rare exception when it comes to Yankees fans.

Taunt?
For the record the Yankees haven't won a Subway Series since 2003 and are obviously off to a bad start this year.

I don't hate the Yankees nor do I pile on when they lose. But, when you live in a city like Tampa where there are more Yankees fans than anything, you have to get your shots in. That's the cost of being good, when you lose other folks get happy. Being that my team hasn't won a World Series since 88, I enjoy other teams having a roguh patch. I guess you can call it rough when you have the highest payroll in baseball and you're sitting in the basement with the Devil Rays xlolx xlolx

And then you come here to AGS and hear it from the Georgia Southern fans...
I have nothing against the Yankee fans, they are class acts for the most part. I just don't like the way they do business, although they are completely within the current baseball rules and are merely taking advantage of their revenue situation. I just wish something would be changed to make MLB more like the NFL in the parity dept.
As for Tar Hole fans, the best of them is 10 times worse than the worst Yankee fans.

No, the statement is about the Red Sox and I think it is correct.
So let's use fact checker to see.
Fact check: Did the Red Sox "win it all" in 2004?
"Win it all" would mean, of course, that you won every title that you could win (all=every).
So let's see:
Boston Red Sox, 2004
Won World Series? xthumbsupx
Won ALCS? xthumbsupx
Won ALDS? xthumbsupx
Won AL East title? xdohx
Fact checker determination: The Boston Red Sox have not "won it all" since 1918.xnodx

1995 to 2006 is 11 years. Its been 11 seasons since Boston won the division and finished ahead of the Yankees. So your facts were wrong :p even if just by 1 year :D

So is it bad if I hate the Yankees and Red Sox equally? They can both rot in hell for all I care. The Red Sox fans taunt the Yankees for "free-spending", but the Red Sox do the same thing.
For the record, I'm a Rangers fan, and yes we suck. We always have and I realize that. I'm a glutton for punishment.

I find it amusing that people pile on the Yankees when they haven't a title since 2000. Yankee haters act like they are winning the World Series every year. I get it when it comes from Boston fans because of the rivalry, but it seems like people enjoy hating the Yankees more than cheering and following their own teams.

No as for Sox fans going after the Yankees on spending.
What George Steinbrenner does is bad for baseball and Boston tried playing on a lesser playing field for numerous seasons.
But why should the Red Sox not spend to compete with the Yankees if they have the money to do so. Its not fair to the franchise, players or fans to be non competitve just because the Yankees choose to free spend. The Yankees changed the world of baseball, the Sox have just done what they have to to remain competitive.

As long as revenues are sky high then teams will free-spend. The Yanks spend a lot of money because they make a lot of money.

actually, I hated the Yankees before there even was a Mets. My first baseball memories are of the 1957 World Series and I just rooted against the Yankees after that with no home team of my own to like. The Red Sox were not an alternative as we were in the NY TV market in my part of CT. When the Mets came into existence it was just natural to become a fan for the alternative.
I hated the Yankees, but I liked Yogi.

Agreed,
and in fact I would be shocked if the Yankee's don't (in some way) pull it out this season... they will score a lot of runs this year, and if the pitching is even moderate they have a great chance...

My favorite soccer team, Bayern Munich, are the Yankees of the Bundesliga; they have the most money, have won 20+ league titles, etc. This season, however, they finished fourth, missing out on a spot in the champions league. If you think fans of other teams hate the Yankees, you should see the animosity other German teams' fans have for Bayern. I'm sure even fans whose teams were relegated thought this was a worthwhile season simply because "FC Hollywood" failed.
