We had 3 youngin's playing last year that struggled the first half of the season. But the line really gelled the 2nd half of the season. Now we have Quinn coming aboard. The line is considered a strength by the Coaches this year.

The line took some heat for the sacks on Swogger but you need to watch Josh play. He was real picky about finding an open receiver and held the ball too long many times. The line can hold the Defense only so long, and if you are holding the ball 4-5 seconds looking through your receivers you'll get a lot of sacks.

I'm not tryin to hate on the Griz. In fact I like the 2007 squad quite a lot. Just pointing out that size, in and of itself, isn't all that crucial for linemen at the collegiate level. Of course its good if you can combine size, athleticism, and skill all in one.

That Montana line is huge! JMU's line has kind of 'slimmed down' from recent years.

Of course Franklin Martin is not on the JMU team now pending resolution of an "acquaintance" rape charge. Yet in the "for what it's worth category" I read a recent depth chart coming out of Spring ball (before Franklin was suspended) that listed him at 360# (as opposed to last years 345). Makes you kinda wonder if perhaps Franklin's legal defense might be related to his weight. If 360# fell on top of me I'd sure as heck feel violated!

CSU starting OL ran about 280 last year. Looking at those coming back and who should fill in it should be around 285 or so this year. Mills got some real monsters the last couple of years and in about 2 years the OL should be over 300 average. With the new full time strength coach it may even help bulk these guys up a little sooner.

Yep, the initial legal news about Martin is tough all the way around. I'll admit it also surprised me as Franklin is really a big teddy bear...which is why he seemed to be stuck on the second squad. Even without Franklin, however, JMU's starting OL will avg. over 300 as Apted, Eason, Walker, Powell, and Lemn are the starters (at least for the moment).

I think this is a great thread, I agree these guys don’t get the credit they deserve. Furman had a lot of issues with the offensive line last season. Which usually provides the leadership for the O. Injuries and inexperience and IMO playing a finesse style did not fit the skill set of the 2006 line. New line coach Carroll McCray has brought a lot of intensity into the mix. Clay Hendrix was a loss but BL choosing a veteran coach was a smart move. The most potent Furman offenses are led by dominating physical lines, they usually are strong and move very well. It should be exciting to all Furman fans to have Hayes and Cockburn for 3 more years. These guys are mean and physically gifted. Haynes bench-pressed 445 as a freshman, Cockburn 425. Joel Bell is still the star of the oline for the next 2 years. Bell is massive. Menocal is the wildcard for Furman, Menocal rehab'ed last season after spot starting for Corey Stewart in 05. Menocal could shift things, causing Goolsby to move to tackle.

1) I never realized that JD Quinn was only a Junior...that bodes VERY well for next year; but he didn't come in as a center did he?

CSU starting OL ran about 280 last year. Looking at those coming back and who should fill in it should be around 285 or so this year. Mills got some real monsters the last couple of years and in about 2 years the OL should be over 300 average. With the new full time strength coach it may even help bulk these guys up a little sooner.

I believe these would be the two-deep, but from what I hear a frosh or two may challenge for serious time.

6'5", 6'6", 6'7", as freshman and sophomores, wow. My parents told me if I ate a lot of vegetables as a kid I would grow up big and strong. Apparently they were full of *****. Crazy how big some of these guys are. Remember when the NFL had like one or two 300 pound lineman and that was amazing? I think it was William Perry with the Bears, aka "The Fridge". He wouldn't even be considered big now.

NDSU has downsized their linemen over the past few seasons, putting more emphasis on speed and athleticism-

I can't remember where I read or heard(probably Steve Hallstrom's interview) but Coach Bohl thought this would be his best offensive line since he has been NDSU's coach. Nate Safe and Zach Harrington should both be NFL prospects and All-American candidates.

Big question is the eligibility of Adam DeCock (T, 6'6, 307). Looking like Louis Saucedo (6'5, 327) will be ineligible. Tough to lose a couple of beasts like those. Overall, a real young, but very talented group.

Pretty small group. A couple young guys too. Will be interesting to see how they play.

Shame about Saucedo. hes a BIG KID xeekx . Nice to see Hansen move to G too, i think he'll eventually become an all BSC caliber G this year.
