Sammy Sosa will join the 600 club within the next week or so. But thats not what I want to discuss.

Does hitting 600 homeruns mean as much as it used to? Think about it, the following guys will probably be joining the club in the next few years:

Manny Ramirez
Arod
Griffey
Thome
Delgado
Thomas

Further down the road:
Sheffield
Vlad Guerreo
Andruw Jones

Once Sosa joins the club, there will be 5 members. That could more than double in the next few years.

600 does mean alot and will for quite a while. I think until there are 20-30 members of the 600 club, it shouldn't be diminished.

I don't think Frank Thomas has a shot at 600.
I don't mind any of those players listed getting to 600 besides Sheffield.
Nobody else has been suspected of drug use.

I say have at it guys

There's only 4 in the 600 club right now: Aaron, Bonds, Ruth, Mays.

Of those who are close, I'd have no problem with any of them joining. I think now we only may consider new members as "problems" because A) we suspect steriods, or B) they've jumped to a number of teams and aren't as easily pegged with one franchise as Aaron:Braves, Bonds/Mays:Giants, Ruth:Yankees

The drug thing has tarnished such milestones. Not too many people can look at Sosa and not think that he used performance enhancers, just as you have to be pretty stupid to think that Bonds didn't. We may never know how many others of those who will eventually hit 600 were also dirty. It will be interesting to see what happens when Sosa and Bonds are eligible for the Hall of Fame. My gut tells me that neither will make it and if I had a vote, I'm not sure I would vote for Sosa either. I definitely wouldn't vote for Bonds.

600 is still quite a feat, but it doesn't seem as unattainable as it did 20 years ago. The performance enhancement generation has called everyone into question, but due tothe lack of a viable testing program it's hard to not include someone due to all the doubt.

I personally am not a fans of several on that list. Particularly Bonds, Sosa and Griffey. But, I suppose I feel their records should not have astericks by them.

I'm a Dodger fan and hate Bonds as much as anyone, but he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Yes his numbers since 2000 are probably tainted, but look at what he did before then:
14 seasons
445 HR
2000 Hits
420 Doubles
1,300 RBIs
470 SBs
.300 AVG, >.400 OBP
average over 100 walks a season
8 Time all-star
8 Gold Glovees
3 MVPs
5 time 30-30 guy (had 29 SB two more years he hit 30 HRs)
Only 40-40 guy

If he would have walked away from baseball in 2000 he would still be in the hall.xdohx

Nobody is doubting his athletic ability, just his ethics, and exactly when they went down the drain. Until that is answered, he will always be looked upon as a cheater.
