Looking for a streamlined, more manageable and maybe ready-for-primetime NFL draft? Apparently, so is commissioner Roger Goodell.
Perhaps as a precursor to eventually presenting the first round as a primetime event, likely on a Friday, Goodell is expected to broach the subject of reducing the time limits for making selections in the first two rounds when owners convene next Tuesday in Nashville for the league's annual spring meeting.
This year's draft included the longest first round in history, at six hours and eight minutes. It also had the longest first day, with the first three rounds stretching 11 hours, four minutes.

Thought you had a medical problem for a second there. :p
Yes, a much shorter time between selections would do wonders in actually keeping the draft interesting. I'll admit to being a sucker and watching most of the first day, but the ears really only perked up during the actual selection. 11 hours of Berman, Kiper and Mortensen is just sadistic. xthumbsupx

Goodell is going to be a great NFL commish. I love the whole hoopla of the first day. My only beef is that rounds 2-7 are virtually ignored as the announcers keep on reminding us of round 1 CONSTATNLY.

Way way way way way too early to make that prediction. Who's going to be the #1 overall pick in the 2009 draft while you're at it?
I agree, so far he's been good, however Napoleon III seemed like a pretty decent ruler early on, but his "3rd Empire" was the last one in France.*
Actually I thought the thread title was refering to the NBA Playoffs! xthumbsupx
*Who expected a reference to French history?

I'm ok with the time limit. I was dissapointed with waiting around to watch Ingle Martin get drafted only to hear Mel Kiper mispronounce my school mascot. :(

It will have to be 10 min if they go to primetime or it will last until the wee hours of the morning

Spot on! If you know who you want, you don't need 15 minutes "on the clock." If a team is prepared, it will have 2 or 3 selections ready per pick depending on who's still available. I can see 15 minutes if a team is trying to work a last-minute deal.
And I wouldn't mind shipping Berman, Kiper and Mortensen to Mars on the next available flight.

I can't complain about this years first round. Those nearly eight hours helped me get thru the workday. xlolx xlolx
