View Full Version : David Stern and the NBA are a joke

Suspending Amare and Diaw for a game. Rewarding the Spurs for their dirty play.

The Stern is too much of a chicken to come to Phoenix - cancels his trip to Phoenix for Game 7.

Horry gets two game, Amare and Diaw get one game.

Horry should have gotten more, but the other two had to be suspended for one game for leaving the bench....the players are told constantly to keepo their emotions in check and stay on the bench...they violated that rule, an automatic one game.

Hope the Suns whip the Spurs in the next game.....

Are you serious??!!! If somebody hits your best friend you go to his defense. Nash is their team. He is the one that carries them. Horry shoved him into the scorers table and could have really injured him. That is a first reaction that anybody would have if you saw that happen to a teammate, none the less a friend.

They are professionals. They know the rules. They are paid not to react to first instinct. There are plenty of others that are closer that will come to the defense of the player. Stay on the damn bench.

Saying that you will stay on the bench is so much easier than actually being in the position that STAT and Diaw were in.

The Spurs have been cheap shotting the Suns all series. The joke is that Bowen, Duncan are still playing. I could live with Amare and Boris's suspension if Duncan was gone as well, since he came off the bench in the 2nd quarter.

but no, Duncan is the golden boy, and throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way, so he is not suspended either.

That's why I said that you have to have discipline and stay on the bench.

I don't recall anyone from the Knicks or Nuggets that got suspended for coming off the bench during the Garden Brawl.

He didn't break a long standing rule. He didn't come off the bench during an altercation.

(Although, there is an argument about earlier in the game.)

And our lesson of the day is....every action has consequences...and adults must be willing to accept the consequences of their actions.

Thus, if you feel you must defend your team mate...I'm OK with you coming off the bench. But you must be OK with the one game automatic suspension. That's the way the world works.

Class dismissed.

But go through the tape (THE WHOLE TAPE) and then find any other times that there was any other "bench clearing" "Fouls" earlier in the game. Bowen has been lucky this entire series along with Duncan.

No altercations, though.

Define "altercation"... One could just as easily argue what happened with Duncan was as much an altercation as Horry's cheap shot.

The end result - the Spurs get rewarded for dirty play.

True, but the rule is you can't leave the vicinity of your bench. Duncan was close to being halfway onto the court along with another player but he wasn't as far out.

Had the two suns players followed the rules the only suspenmded player woulda been Horry. But they didn't and they deserve to be suspended as well.

I'm sure the NBA has a definition for altercation. I personally don't know. I'm sure the players know, and if they don't, it's on them to find out.

I will say that had STAT and Diaw been older they would have known better but what can you do about it now. If i were in the situation i would have down what they did as well. I don't like to see my teammates treated like that and cheap shotted.
The SUNS, however, will be out with electricty in their vains on Wednesday. I predict a major game for Nash and Bell with Kurt Thomas coming up big. Horry picked the wrong game to check Nash because the next game is in PHX.........I BLEED ORANGE ;)

Outstanding response! xhurrayx xthumbsupx xnodx

Good lord people, life isn't fair. Stop whining about what the other people did - you are only responsible for your behavior.

It's not as though someone had to stop Horry from murdering Nash. xeekx It was a stupid, thug-like tactic by Horry in a playoff game. And, he got suspended.

Guess what? If STAT and Diaw didn't respond, Horry would be suspended and they wouldn't. End of story.

So did Duncan.

I think they should go back to the 70's and 80's era of the NBA and ABA. This suspending and fining for everything is getting ridiculous.

They can come off the bench, just not onto the in-bounds part of the court. Both Suns players crossed the OB line, hence rules are rules.

In Duncan's case, there was no altercation on the floor and I can't see an argument to make that there was one. The rule says that it is an automatic 1 game suspension if (1) there is an altercation and (2) the player leaves the bench area. It is not an "or" in that case. That is why he did not get suspended.

I could really care less who wins this series but look for rule changes so that suspensions are fewer next year especially in this case.

But rules are rules.

So if Jones had then elbowed the Spurs player, Duncan would have been suspended?

And why did Bowen grab Duncan back to the bench if there was no altercation?

Unfortunately yes, that's the NBA for you. What a ridiculous, stupid rule. It's bad enough that they blow the momentum of this series by starting games at about 10:45 Eastern time. I don't think anyone should have been suspended at all, Horry included, but based on the rules Stoudamire and Diaw techincally did merit one since it was an altercation.

True and that is why the rule has to be changed. But the way it has been interpreted for years, they had to suspend them. Remember the Knicks back in 97. Ewing was no where near the fight and got suspended.

There wasn't an altercation when they came off the bench though! They ran off the bench as soon as they saw Nash get cheap-shotted, about the same time I'm sure Raja Bell ran over to Rober Horry. They didn't come off the bench because Bell was fighting Horry, they came off because Horry tackled Nash.

PantherRob82
May 16th, 2007, 06:29 PM
They need to change that rule about coming off the bench. If you don't do anything but take a few steps and back off, nothing should happen. Especially in a pivot game in the playoffs.
