Unfortunately for all of you, the pictures of the band I have aren't from on the field. Those are hard to get when you're actually in the Band. :D Maybe 13 has some somewhere.
You can find some older pics here: Scrapbooks (http://kingsley.colgate.edu/pepband/scrap.html)
I do have some music though: Fight Song (http://kingsley.colgate.edu/pepband/sounds/HOP/fight_song.wav)
Also, is JSU's halftime show done Drum Corps-style, or HBCU ShowBand style?

SDSU Pride of the Dakotas Marching Band (over 400 strong)
The rotating pictures were taken when the Pride went to Pasadena to march in the Tournament of Roses, Rose Parade. :cool:
Lyrics to Fight Song:
RING THE BELLS
Ring the bells for South Dakota
The Yellow and the Blue;
Cheer the team from South Dakota
With loyal hearts so true;
Win the game for South Dakota
The School that serves us well;
We will fight for South Dakota
So let's ring, ring, ring those bells.
Lyrics to School Song:
THE YELLOW AND BLUE
We come from the Sioux and Missouri,
The Cheyenne and the Jim,
From pine clad peaks of the Black Hills,
Brimful of vigor and vim.
We sing the song of the prairie,
The home of the Yellow and Blue.
The gleaming gold of the corn field,
The flax of azure hue.
(chorus)
Oh SDSU hurrah for the Yellow and Blue;
Old SDSU all honor and glory to you;
For ever raise the song in praise both loud and long
With loyal heart so true (so true)
Oh loyal hearts and true (and true,
so true).

Thanks, 99.
Here's a shot of last year's Marching Southerners from the season opener. The photo's borrowed from a band parent (I think). She's got more good pics from that game up here (http://webpages.charter.net/acampbell2742/JSU%20Euphoria%20State%20Sep%204,%202004/index.html).
http://myweb.cableone.net/jax42/JSU-Emporia-State-2004-07.jpeg
The fight song is here (http://www.marchingsoutherners.org/home/a/Traditional/JSU_Fight_Song.ram), in low-quality RealMedia from several years ago. Sing along with the Southerners:
Fight on!
Fight on for ol' Jax State.
We're proud that we're from Alabama!
Fight on, now don't you hesitate.
Courage, pride and honor
Will lead us on to victory.
So fight on!
Fight for the red and white.
We're gonna howl tonight!
Fight on, Gamecocks and you will see,
that we will win the victory!
For more and better audio, and a real taste of what the band's like, click here and try out some of the halftime music (http://www.marchingsoutherners.org/home/multimedia.php)from recent years.
Also, is JSU's halftime show done Drum Corps-style, or HBCU ShowBand style?
It would be tough to do HBCU style, since we're not an HBCU. Don't confuse us with Jackson State of the SWAC. The Southerners are solidly corps style.

The UMass Minuteman Marching Band is one of the country's outstanding bands as even UD fans will grudgingly attest to. A legendary director in George Parks, an Incredible drumline etc. and They also have a great website. The Fight song as well as the Who's "Tommy" and the 1812 Overture can be found here as well as pictures and history of the Minuteman Marching Band going back to about the 1890s:

Where is the rest of the band? They look almost as small as my alma mater's band (Rhode Island), and I thought URI had the smallest band in the land. Of course RI is the smallest state! And generally speaking we do NOT play football, at least not very well.

I got out in 01 myself, and I know the words. . .my question is more about how we sang it, I guess. Was the tune the same as it is today? Is the same song as the "Go App...Fight App...Win App" version the band plays? If they're different, how did one replace the other?

I'll be the first to admit that our fight song is unimaginative. We have no lyrics (as the song has only existed for MAYBE 5 years), except for some cheers we "borrowed" (see: STOLE) from the University of Alabama and West Virginia University. Reason being is our new marching tech just graduated from Bama, and our Director of Bands, Asst. Dir. of Bands/Dir. of Percussion, AND Drill Designer/Announcer ALL went to WVU. I personally hate the cheers...Jon or anyone else that's heard them here in Conway this year can back me up on the fact that they suck majorly.
So, yeah, CCU's fight song really isn't much to "sing" about yet. Hopefully, when we finally get lyrics...things will improve.

The MSU fight song is okay, but it seems to be too slow. Also the part in the middle is the same middle part as the University of Texas' Fight Song ("Texas Fight" listen here: http://fightmusic.com/mp3/big12/Texas__Texas_Fight.mp3 )
The one I like best on this link is the App State fight song; especially with the cheereing in the middle. It is fast, and up tempo. But my favorite all time fight song is from Texas Tech: "Fight Raiders Fight" : http://fightmusic.com/mp3/big12/Texas_Tech__Fight_Raiders_Fight.mp3

What you are describing is the way most fight songs develop. They usually appropriate from the original school of the band director. Your school is new and in time will develop traditions like others. However, don't try to force traditions because they will always be fake.
