COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Two-time All-Met running back Marcus Mason (Georgetown Prep) has left the Illinois football program by mutual agreement with new Illini coach Ron Zook , following "a violation of team rules," according to an athletic department spokesperson.

A source at Youngstown State said Mason likely will transfer there once his academic record is examined. Mason, the 2002 All-Met Offensive Player of the Year, holds the Maryland high school career records for rushing yards (5,790) and touchdowns (86).

Mason was unavailable to comment. . . .

I am not certain what caused this move .. but now we have a Mr. Maryland finalist and Mr. Kentucky finalist in our backfield.

I question why he chose YSU also, but glad he's here but does come with baggage. Hopefully he's learned from his mistakes. I figured he might turn to Illinois St or WIU. Illinois St now has Michigan transfer Pierre Rembert and WIU still has Glasford. Maybe Mason figures he has a chance to start. YSU is really loaded at RB with Gibson (Kentucky), Edgerson (South Carolina), & now Mason. Cayson who led the team in rushing two years ago, will be the "X" back this year, playing some receiver.

Not hard to figure why. YSU -- TB dominated,, history of great running attacks, great running backs, run dominated O.

If this kid is as good as some say he is, Gibson and Edgerson will be fighting for play time.

Perfect YSU TB -- bowling ball, ala P.J. Mayes and Tamron Smith !! :p
