Looks like the CAA is a 3 playoff team league per Massey Win Projections on 10/23/19. Comments?
*Massey had Delaware/Stony Brook 50% with a 28-27 score in SB’s favor. I gave the win to SB.

That's the price of the league going 0-14 against the top 2 teams if Massey's expectations play out. For each upset that Nova and JMU take it probably means there's one more bubble team from the CAA that gets in.

UNH's schedule is brutal! I don't see them winning enough to have a chance. If they go 7-4 they're a lock.
Ultimately I'll take JMU, 'Nova, Towson and Albany.

pretty good depth in CAA this year, and already seeing a lot of cannibalization ... could be a lot of 4-4 teams by year end. Will be interesting to see if FCS Selection Committee rewards them or punishes them (ala MVFC treatment) .. or somewhere correctly in the middle.

I see the CAA kind of like an old 70s cartoon classic
Scooby Doo
we all know who the Big Dog is
followed up by Nova hipster Shaggy, although could pass for prepster Fred
rest of the league is more like Velma, Daphne and Shaggy doo

I'm not so sure Albany and Richmond are "Others", unworthy of the detailed look you gave the others.
Richmond has a brutal stretch right now, but with some success could flip this on its head.

Elon appears to be this year's Maine when it comes to getting the most favorable draw from the CAA schedule makers. They miss Villanova, Stony Brook, and Albany.

Albany can't end up 7-5, 4-4. Either 6-6, 4-4, or 7-5, 5-3. And Massey gives them 47% vs. UNH and 49% vs. Delaware, practically tossups. 8-3 is well within possibilities

Not sure how you say what team missed who when you still have 4 league games left. Maine was 4-3 at this point last year, not on anyone's screen. Massey gave us very little chance of doing anything. Still way to early and can almost bet that Massey will miss one team that wins out or only loses one more game blowing up all these predictions.

True, but Massey also gives Albany only 36% of beating Stony Brook when we beat them last year. So we still could end up anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3

Just another typical CAA year, take JMU out of the picture and every game can go in either direction. Where this Maine team is this year vs last year could be 4 less wins yet the team is very close to what it was last year in talent. Just such a thin margin in being a contender vs a pretender.xbowx

Every CAA team misses 3 other CAA teams each year on their conference schedule. This year Elon is missing Villanova, Stony Brook, and Albany which, as of now, are 3 of the top 5 ranked CAA teams. Last year Maine missed JMU, Delaware, and Stony Brook which were 3 of the 5 other CAA playoff teams in 2018. With these unbalanced schedules in conferences like the Big Sky and CAA that have 12 or 13 teams there's always going to be some very uneven schedule strengths that are just luck of the draw in terms of who gets the easier or tougher league schedule from year to year.

And Freshman QB Joe Fagnano is playing better each successive game. Maine could play a spoiler in some of these last 4 games.

My point is Nova, SB and Albany may not end up as 3 of the top 5 with 4 games remaining.

Gents, I apologize if this was discussed in other places, but should Maine run the table and finish 7-5, it would seem they would have a shot of squeezing in depending on other results? That would be 5 straight to end the year, a couple FBS losses, 5-3 in the league.... I'm just one man hoping...

I would think they'd have a fair shot. 7 wins has been the traditional bar to get playoff consideration. Though in a 12 game season some believe 8 wins will be required. Nobody really knows but I'd guess some 7 win team (teams?) will get in. To some degree it will depend on how many teams finish with 8 or more wins.
Having a couple of FBS losses usually isn't a problem. Finally finishing the year with 5 straight wins would definitely be a plus. The committee almost always rewards finishing strong when weighing teams on the bubble. Five straight wins would certainly stand out. Good luck to your Bears. Yet as always, Go Griz!

Not sure how good our chances are at 7-5 but think they would improve dramatically if UNH was to beat JMU. A win by UNH this Saturday would make them a top 10 team and put them in a tie for the Conference lead and setup the final game in Durham for alot more meaning than just the Musket. Last years performance by Maine in the playoffs certainly won't hurt either.

Because the CAA plays an unbalanced conference schedule, the actual conference opponents a team plays, as well as each playoff team’s non-conference schedule, need to be closely evaluated. It is possible a team could have played an “easy” or “hard” conference schedule, in addition to an easy or hard non-conference schedule.

Usually yes, but it's pretty simple this year. If you had URI, and not JMU, you had an easy schedule (UD, Albany, JMU). If you had JMU and not URI you had a hard one (UR and Nova). Everyone else is basically identical.
