Mercer 34; VMI 27..............Final

congrats to Mercer, they had a fine defensive game plan, and made more plays, especially busting a 56 yard TD late in the 4th period when VMI bunched the LOS. That made it 34-20 with under four minutes to go.

Also in the first period, VMI had first and goal from the mercer 3.......could not get into the end zone (3 pass attempts, no runs by ramsey), settled for FG.

and again, Mercer's short, squatty halfbacks with the Earl Campbell legs broke many VMI tackles, and kept drives going. Mercer also successfully did a fake FG for a TD pass in the 3rd quarter.

VMI now 4-4, 7 wins a BIG stretch now.
