I think all of these games are toss ups except for the SDSU game. I will probably wait until later in the week before I make my picks.

If I had to make picks today I would probably pick NDSU, USD, SDSU, MSU, and YSU. Unless I forget to post my picks later in the week though, this post is not my official pick list.

I'll comment on the Indiana State game. I might still end up picking us to win, but we are down our starting QB who was preseason all-MVFC. Our offense has not been good so far and South Dakota's defense is also bad; so I guess we will find out if USD's defense is worse or ISU's offense. While our defense has been way better lately, USD has a pretty good passing game for the most part. If our defense doesn't show up (see Dayton) then USD will win this game.

Okay I lied here are my picks.

NDSU- competitive for 3.5 quarters and then NDSU pulls away.

USD- INST won't have enough offense to win.

SDSU- Jackrabbits are just too powerful for SIU.

MSU- I'm not sure WIU has enough offense to win. If MSU can limit their turnovers they should win.

UNI- Hardest one for me to pick. I think UNI will rebound and I'm still not completely sold on YSU. I think there´s a good chance UNI would be 4-0 with YSU's schedule and I think there's a good chance YSU would be 2-2 with UNI's schedule. UNI in a close one.

we lost our top 2 receivers and RG .. not concerned so much with RG.

Given our receiver depth issues in recent years and how young this current WR group is ... mostly FR and SO .. this is a problem, especually losing top guy SO Edgar, who as RS FR was Hero FR all american. He was out against NIU and was still working his way back to 100% against EIU before busting out against NAU with 12 catches 225 yards. Also lost RS FR Grimes who was playing well while Edgar worked his way back. BUt both are out. We like our depth for first time in several years, but it is young and unproven. Couple more young guys will fil in along with couple upper classment .... SR Haley was also injured but is now healthy and then new transfer JR Blackmon is still acclimating to system, but will hopefully step up. then we have couple true FR we like

Here is WR roster and depth chart. Haley is solid. Kacper Rutkiewicz can really fly and catch. Not sure he is ready for prime time or not. Hoping transfer Blackmon steps up these 2 weeks off.

True in part .. but things like this usually even out over time. Again, our WR group is/was young and talented, so this will be a good early test and learning curve for them. It's the deepest group we've had since 2014 ... not the best starters (2014 & 2016) ... not much experience, but deep talent wise .. in next year or 2, this group will become a strength for us.

But NDSU is probably not the game we want to be figuring this out ... bye week should help some .. maybe. This is why Im really hoping upper classmen SR Haley (now healthy) and JR Blackmon (transfer) step up, along with true FR Kacper Rutkiewicz. Also a chance for our QB to show some leadership bringing them along. He had a full offseason with them this past year.

A lot depends on the Bison pass rush and our OL .. if our QB has a strong pocket, I think he'll find his groove again ... not like NAU, but enough to keep Bison front 7 more honest with RB Robinson.

UNI-cycle is very difficult to beat in the dome. However, offense is struggling. YSU is one-dimensional running with a solid defense. I cannot predict a winner and I don't think anyone can. Low scoring game. Whomever wins the TO battle and is in better conditioning wins the game. YSU has the statistics in TO margin and the safety is a stud (but all against lesser competition) Samford was an outstanding passing team and YSU was tested there. If UNI has a running QB (as I hear it has) they will be difficult for YSU to stop on the ground. Statistics say YSU is due for a win and UNI tends to lose games earlier in the year but finish strong. Because of these factors I say YSU wins but it is a coin toss in their GYM. If one of the two wins big for any reason, they are legit contenders this year.

North Dakota State @ Illinois State 38 - 24 NDSU just as good as ever and the Red Birds are really banged up.

Indiana State @ South Dakota 42-38 SD at home is ready for the trees

Southern Illinois @ South Dakota State 38-14 Dawgs can't hunt down the bunnies

Missouri State @ Western Illinois 45-40 Seems like the battle for the basement of the MVFC

Youngstown State @ Northern Iowa 9-8 3 OT's The Guins are looking to end a bad streak at the gym and UNI is trying to rebound from a tough game last week. No losers in this game both teams should still be contenders with the "L" for a playoff spot.

North Dakota St @ Illinois St - Fairly low scoring with inconsistent play from both offenses but I think Lance makes more plays than Davis and that's the difference.

Indiana St @ South Dakota - Maybe I wrote USD off too early (not for the playoffs but for just being a half decent team) when I thought their loss to HBU was awful. Massey and Sagarin are both still high on them. I think they find a way to win at home.

Southern Illinois @ South Dakota St - As per the norm the Jacks come out a little flat in their game celebrating homeless people but eventually wake up to win easily.

Missouri St @ Western Illinois - One winless team will get off the schneid… I'll pick the home team.

Youngstown St @ Northern Iowa - This is a very interesting game to me. I think UNI's defense is stellar and YSU's offense is going to come down to earth in a big way after breezing through their OOC schedule but UNI's offense has just been bad. This will probably be the lowest scoring game in the MVFC this week... I'll say Panthers by a FG.

Las Vegas Point Spreads (not my picks):

USD -5.5
NDSU -13
SDSU -20
WIU -2.5
UNI -6.5

I think the only team that makes an upset today is MSU. The other spreads sound about right.
