Interesting fact about The Citadel...our current location was not the original one. We were in downtown Charleston from 1842 to 1922 when we moved to the current location. About a mile and a half further up the peninsula.

A second interesting, infamous, fact, is our original main building is now an Embassy Suites. Yeah, not many schools can say that...or would want to most likely.

General facts: Good Morning America host and former ESPN anchor, Robin Roberts, is a Southeastern Louisiana alum, and is a member of our athletics Hall of Fame (basketball). Legendary Jazz Pianist, Bill Evans, is also a Southeastern grad. Our university is one of the few in the nation with a textbook rental program.

I believe the Watterson Tower claim for ISU is that it is the tallest POINT between Chicago and St. Louis. Taking into account the 300 ft. Watterson's base is at about 800' elevation where as Springfield's 350' hotel base elevation is 600ish.

If I can add to the ISUr list of interesting facts ... our football stadium is named after a former coach Howard Hancock, who's lifetime record from 1931 to 1944 was 57-45 ... not exactly the kind of record you would hope for in someone you named your stadium after. He did set one record and it is probably still holding in some way ... he also had 19 ties, some kind of record at the time.

As the Chicago rep and Bulls Fan here, some more UCA Pippen trivia ... finished HS at 6'1" and 150 lbs, someone pulled strings for him to join UCA program as team manager his FR year, but he decided to tryout and made it as walk-on. Apparently they were NAIA back then. Then he hit growth spurt and became 5th pick in 1987 draft, which Bulls traded for ... the rest is history .. from UCA team manager turned walkon to 6 NBA championships, 2 gold medals, made NBA top 50 all time players list.

Ha...I can imagine. I helped out once at move-in day at WIU's Thompson Hall back when we had students. It's only 18 stories (http://www.wiu.edu/images/news/11762/11762_3791_1.jpg), but elevator space was definitely at a premium that day.


If I can add to the ISUr list of interesting facts ... our football stadium is named after a former coach Howard Hancock, who's lifetime record from 1931 to 1944 was 57-45 ... not exactly the kind of record you would hope for in someone you named your stadium after. He did set one record and it is probably still holding in some way ... he also had 19 ties, some kind of record at the time.

And you guys wonder how we can go 6-5 every year and maintain our optimism ???

p.s. but I 100% guarantee we will not go 6-5 this year ... book it !!! xthumbsupx

Rumor is that he was on a skiing scholarship to Montana State and was watching football practice one day, particularly the kickers. He then demonstrated to the coaches a better way to kick the football, and he was then asked to join the team.

Interesting fact for Montana, UM alum Jeanette Rankin was the only person in the Senate and the House to vote against entering World War II after the Pearl Harbor bombing.

Yes, yes it is. I grew up about 4 miles from the App trail in Sussex county. About 10 miles SW of High Point. Basically I grew up in the middle of the woods. NJ has some very beautiful areas.

He’ll be a a HOF’er once her retires. Joining the other NFL HOF’er from SDSU, Jim Langer. Langer was the center for the undefeated Dolphins team and also was a very good baseball player during his time at state. He passed away at the end of the summer this year.

Another notable everyone knows, Daktronics was started by SDSU alums. You might have heard of them.

Also, the Briggs in Briggs and Stratton motors was a SDSU graduate and designed his first motor when attending SDSU. Stratton was just the money side of things. I also tailgate right by the library that was named after him.

As I recall the story about Stenerud, he was on the ski team, the team needed a kicker, and the coaches asked him to try kicking the football (as he'd grown up playing soccer).

Rankin was the first woman elected to the House (first woman to hold federal office, IIRC?). She voted against entering BOTH world wars (the only one to vote in opposition?). She was a UM grad, back when it was called MSU.

It turns out that their extra thick craniums make their heads disproportionately heavy and when they jumped in the water they would flip over and sink to the bottom like a kid's dive stick. The City of Fargo purchased the facility and repurposed it into an event arena.

As much as division I football has it's attractions, I sure miss the rough grind it out ball playing at the lower levels. The only teams on NDSU's schedule that I think can beat NDSU are ILST, SDSU, and YSU. If I had to bet money on one I'd say SDSU will be the one that actually does it. Illinois State will probably make it interesting for a few quarters. YSU will probably lose in OT.

I think SDSU beat them in the Fargodome last season too on a last second touchdown pass. SDSU has had NDSU's number in the regular season that past couple of years. They just can't beat them in the playoffs. It would be nice to see SDSU and NDSU on opposite sides of the bracket this year. I am so tired of watching SDSU @ NDSU in the playoffs year after year. If they meet in Frisco or in Brookings then that would be more interesting. If it's in Fargo in the playoffs SDSU will lose. It's been proven too many times already.

Yeah, that was 2016 that SDSU won on a last second 4th down TD in the Fargodome. They actually dominated the game far more than that scenario would indicate they did.

SDSU is the only team to beat NDSU more than once since 2011 but they've also lost to them the most (10 times including 7 in a row from 2011-2015) in that timeframe as well.
