the NFL is considering moving the 1st round to friday night in hopes of attracting more viewers and to give a period to decompress before round 2.

It's long enough, they'd have to start it at like 2pm

If they did that, they would have to do something to make sure it only took at most 4 hours. 10/minutes a team would still be over 5 hours.
And for gosh sakes - rotate it around the country. I am sick of seeing an audience of J-E-T-S fans.

Wasn't this year a record, like 7 hours or something?

I think they should cut it down to 10 min picks in the 1st round either way Friday night or Saturday morning.

They want it in a big city to attract the 5 top picks to show up. I don't think Oakland is a city that is exciting. It would be funny to see if the Packers got the 1st pick and it was held there. I think only the guy that was going to the Packers would show.

If they shortened the first round time-wise I'd be all for it - 15 minutes per pick is just insane. I'm fine leaving it in NYC - it's the one location that a whole bunch of fans (Phila, Balt, both NY teams, Pitt, Buff, Wash, and NE) can all get to relatively easily. You put it anywhere else and you'd be relying on the home team fans to supply pretty much all the attendance. Plus, like the other guy said, why would top picks want to trek out for a weekend at a less glamorous NFL stop?

Typical East Coast snobbery...
Other sports have rotated drafts, and do fine. Why should the east coast fans get to always have an easy time getting to it?
And if the NFL invites 10 players to Green Bay, they'll show.

i dont think we'll ever see the 15 mins drop.
For the most part teams take the 15 mins to discuss trades with other teams and with 1st rounders the value included needs some time to work out the deals.

im all in favor of rotating the draft.
Its all in how you market it. Let cities bid on it like the super bowl...
Line up top players to be there and bring in more of the liklely 1st rounders and have a Fan Fest type thing. Have draftees do autograph sessions for fans and some nfl do the same.
And it doesnt have to be just NFL cities....
I can guarantee you draftees will show up for a party in Miami Beach :p

I hate it when a team uses all 15 minutes to draft a guy that was top on their board, just draft him and move on, lets go. xrolleyesx

I think half of them have the card in hand by minute 2 though and have no intention of trading.

They can learn how to get a deal done in 10 min. and at least drop the 2nd rd to 5 min.
