Heres a clip from the UTM Sports page. Appears the defense is back in style. I note mention of starting a tradition for defense. At UTM, starting any kind of tradition is welcome. xnodx

In their final session, the first team offense and defensive units faced off against each other, as did the second team units, on alternating possessions. The first team defense, despite losing many key components of the 2006 unit to graduation, put together an effort worthy of its predecessors, keeping the offense out of the end zone with plenty of hard hits doled out. The Tennessee-Martin defense dominated the OVC in 2006, finishing first in five categories. The Skyhawks were tops in the conference in scoring defense, giving up just 15.7 points per contest. That average was good enough to put them at 13th in the national rankings and was a huge key in the team finishing with a 9-3 record.

Simpson credited his first defense on Saturday with an "outstanding effort" and raved about their intensity on the field. "We've started, hopefully, a tradition around here of great defensive teams. Our defensive staff did an outstanding job. We've plugged in some new players over there and they're playing hard. Our seniors get credit for leaving them a legacy of playing great defense," the second-year head coach said.

It will be great if they can build on last year's success.
