With the big time additions of Peter Forsberg... Darien Hatcher and Mike Rathje... along with two hot-shot rookies... Jeff Carter and Mike Richards... the Flyers look like the favorites to bring home the Cup.

All I have to say at this point is that I LOVE THE NEW NHL. I mean, damn. The Oilers just landed Chris Pronger, and the Nashville Predators just signed Paul Kariya. Along with that, the best defenseman in the NHL, Scott Neidermeyer, signs in Anaheim. None of those teams would've gotten players like this under the old system. The Bulin wall is another example. It's great. Even though I'm a Bruins fan, I love it when everyone has a shot at winning...kind of like the NFL...maybe baseball should take a fricken hint.

Sadly, the MLB will never do this because there's just too great a difference between the biggest spender and the smallest spender. The NHL's difference was nearly $60 million between the biggest and smallest. Currently, the MLB's biggest spender is the Yanks and almost $200 million. The lowest is somewhere around $30 or $35 million.
