Top 8 seems about right for preseason .. after that, shuffle the deck, you won't be any more wrong or right. Except Towson and NC A&T both seem 5-10 spots too high.

JMU, too high. JMU does not have the right vibe for Cignetti. (or maybe Cignetti does not bring the right vibe to JMU) I see at least two conference losses and a 4 TD loss to WVU. One or two other teams will share the CAA championship with them. They will be a home team in the 1st round of the playoffs again.

Maybe we are getting to a point where there is niche coverage of the FCS and a voting media that is more up to speed on the entire division.

I'll wait until I see them be a little more flexible in season before I give them too much credit. My main critique of this and the coach's poll has always been that there's so little movement relative to what I think there should be when teams surprise/disappoint and that it's impossible for a team to move up without a team in front of them from the week before losing.

chaos, 100% agree - someone will have a 1-2 record w an FCS win and two FBS losses and the non-AGS pollsters will move them down. Ridiculous, you should be expected to lose to FBS. All they should look at is the FCS win. FBS should be seen as only a chance for huge bonus points but not a detriment if you lose.

I for one find it odd that STATS finished Wofford last year at 13, despite a close loss to KSU in the second round, yet ranked us 6th at the end of 2017 after being boatraced by NDSU.

Why would that be odd? NDSU boatraces pretty much everyone outside of the top 3 and SDSU. It's pretty much expected at this point, so you don't really get "dinged" for it.
Losing to KSU...more "dingage".

Can someone explain to me the allure of JMU that they deserve a #1 vote??
They got seconded rounded then turned over a coaching staff and now there's pretty much no trace of the teams that went to the Nattys. The argument could be made that they are basically the new JSU.
Also before I get hate comments this was my 1 to JSU.
1. NDSU
EWU
UCD
SDSU
MAINE
WEBER
JMU
8. JAX
Also, I scrolled through those Twitter comments, he has 6 Southland teams in his top 35. Just wow.

Sam Houston State at 12 and Alcorn State at 15?
No Montana State?
Like JSUSoutherner pointed out there is a LOT of Southland teams in his top 25.

IIRC they are up to like 160ish voters. Even with the horrific ballots in there with 160ish votes you get a decent result with all the bias/ignorance being canceled off each other. It's part of why the AGS Poll works so well - weighted results from a massive contingent of voters catching all bias
As Chaos said - we will see what happens when it comes time for the cards to actually shuffle once a couple games are played.

I think there more to looking at those FBS games than that .. have to look at how well they competed a little closer. I realize many on Coaches and STATS polls will just look at final score and jump to conclusions. For any team in top 25 or flirting with top 25, they warrant a closer look at box score ... just see how well they competed even if only for a half or 3 quarters, etc. and further a quick look at the quality of that FBS opponent. Early in season is when most FCS vs FBS games happen... so yes, you have to look at last year, and might have to rely on Massey or Sagarin SOS, or Massey Composite of 60+ polls for FBS level ... something relatively objective.
So when NDSU beats Iowa by 3 (top 35 team usually) and thumps their chest, that makes a lot of sense. Or my ISUr beat a top 40 Northwestern by 2, that too ... uh never mind we lost to rival EIU a week later, still impressive .. but wins or competing with quality FBS opponents should count for more and carry more weight. But when NC A&T beats ECU or Charlotte (bottom 20 team usually) by 4, then not nearly so much. Or when Lamar loses 77-0 to 5-7 Texas Tech, that shoudl be hald against them .. as opposed to if they lost 35-13 or something. it has to matter and doesn't require much research ... top 25 teams deserve a little effort like this for their FBS games.

Redbird, I agree that's how it SHOULD work - but watching the coaches and STATS polls over last few years I have seen good teams get moved down w an FCS win and losing to a top-25 FBS which should not be held against you at all. No doubt some of these voters only see the record and nothing more. Which could really hurt some teams this year w Two FBS games.

agree there ... I am no fan of coaches poll or stats poll for that and many related reasons ... combination of lazy, uninformed, and regional bias.
