They got one thing completely spot on - VAR as currently used in soccer is a dumpster fire.

Yeah, I'm not sure how you can properly implement it in soccer. I'd love to see all sports move towards a rule where it must be initiated by one of the coaches. Like a stick check in lacrosse, you get to be wrong once for free. After that, it's a severe penalty if you request one but are found in the wrong. In football, that would be a 15 yard penalty and an automatic 1st down or loss of down depending on whether you are on O or D. That would limit it to truly game changing plays and clear errors by the officials.
