View Full Version : DRAFTS

I think the drafts are done wrong in every sport. I think after getting a draft list for all the teams in a sport based on record (worst getting the #1 spot and best the last spot, as it done today) gives a team the RIGHT to that corresponding selction. So, the number 1 pick belongs to the worst team, but other teams can bid (cash only) for the right to that selection. Then the team with the right to the number 1 selection can take either the cash or keep their #1 draft position. The only requirement for the team with the number 1 selection position is that if they take the cash, all of it MUST be reinvested in players for the team within 3 years. The same for the second selection and so on. Another stipulation to the draft is each team is ONLY entitled to ONE first round pick, and you cannot trade a first round pick. This would assure each team had a quality player available to be drafted every year. So, if say a team bids 40 million for the rights to the number one pick and makes a selection (say J. Russell) then they cannot bid or make another selection in the first round. This way the rich are sharing cash with the poorer teams to help them build. Thus, maybe no longer needing salary caps or luxury tax.
I just think getting cash to poorer teams will help them build
Any other opinions

What I think is wrong is the money that's paid to these players that haven't proved a thing. Russell if picked #1 on Saturday will probably get $30 million guaranteed money, only Payton Manning gets more than that.

Sorry guys, I guess that's what happens when you've been up for 22 hours with only a 15 minute break (salary employee). When I reread it, I couldn't believe I had written that, and without having had a drink. I guess lack of sleep has a very similar effect.
Well, I'm going home now to rest.

Is that you Bill Simmons? This sounds almost as ridiculous as your rationale for "6 personal fouls in College Basketball."

so in other words you think the Yankees should be allowed to buy the top 10 picks in the draft.

no, they would ONLY be allowed 1 pick in the first round. It wouldn't matter if it was the first or last pick. Each team would only be entitled to ONE pick in the first round. Each tean would be required to have a first round pick.
