Alek Sauer was moving in the 800-meter run, finishing first, with a time of 1:49.03, to qualify for the quarterfinals, as Columbia Track and Field had three, including Sauer, student-athletes qualify and advance to the next round, on the first day of the NCAA Division I Track and Field Eastern Region Preliminaries at Hodges Stadium.
